I have two ADSL accounts, a SAIX account (sold via a SAIX onseller, not Telkom) and an IS account (IS IP address range).

When listening to streaming audio (internet radio), the SAIX account is unusable entirely. Every 20-30 seconds the audio stops and, a few seconds later, starts up. On the IS account, the audio streams perfectly - not one stop in the last 1/2 hour.

Both of these accounts were used for this test in the last hour, and both are within their capped usage.

What gives SAIX?

The SAIX accounts seems to be down the drain at the moment,
I am using the IS Uncapped account at the moment and it seems to be pretty good. The only thing is that they are advertising it as a 512k account but in fact it is a 384k account. I have tried lots of different downloads and never get a speed higher than 48k Bytes/s. I have taken this up with IS and they confirmed that 30% of the speed is used for admin, in other words to me that is a 384k account.

Thanks for the info - I have applied for the IS Business DSL and did not know that. (Although, it is only for email and web server tests so not a problem for us).

Unfortunately, IS uncapped is satellite based, so not good for games. Otherwise, thumbs up to IS for making a terrible situation (SAIX / Telkom) at least partly bareable!

EDIT: Even so, 384 24/7 for a whole month kicks 512 (or 1024) with a 30GB cap!!!

I wonder when (or if) IS is going to launch Consumer DSL. I read in an archive article that they were looking into it, but I don't know if they will go that route after the UUNET Consumer ADSL failure....

I get 52kb/s max if using download accellerator or torrent with good seeds.

Absolutely perfect on SAIX here.

Been streaming Radio Paradise pretty much constantly for the last few weeks - busy streaming now.

My torrents suck, but everything else is hunky dory. (apart from the obvious cost)

They have launched already, but are using resellers...

is the site you were streaming from on the IS backbone?

Busy using a 384k DSL listening to Kiss100 streaming from the UK.. not one hiccup so far.. yes i'm using a telkom service but its only temporary :)
