Does anyone know what university professors in South Africa earn nowadays?
Google is not helping me in this regard.
Thanks

What field?
I have a friend who lectures Law/Litigation something, its all he does....
R25k a month works about 3 days a week. Hes 27.
It would be law that I was interested in.
What does he do for the other two days and what qualifications does he have, if you don't mind me asking?
IIRC, UCT was offering a position for lecturer of media (not sure what aspect, but it was BA) for something like R320,000 PA.
Plays golf, works in his dads shop...
I think he did his LLB and became an attorney, worked for about a year at some firm in Sandton then started lecturing...
Hes very smart, just lazy... he has enough resources to start his own firm, but like I said hes lazy![]()
The academic adverts in M & G and Business times often have scales. Look there
Yeah 300k+ is about right for senior profs at UCT.
some profs have to bring in research funding too.
one of my old lecturers at UCT said that app they have to bring in over R1 million a year.
So i am sure when they arent teaching they will be doign research work
If you're into that position, those three 3 days of lecturing would be for just that.
If you plan on making academics your profession then you should start using those other 2 days (as well as plenty of your spare time) for research. That bloke that plays golf on his "off" days ... he'll probably not be around for much longer.
There's an old saying in academic circles. Publish or perish.
