Just been to a Vodacom store. Salesman tells me Samsung waves runs Android. And the kicker of it all, he argues with me when I corrected him. After some frantic arguing and showing proof on GSM, he relents and tells me that was what the rep told them.

How many salesman are lying just to get a sale? Imagine going home and trying to access android store..

When the new consumer protection act comes out places like vodascum better watch out, cos they are going to get pwnt!!!!

The new consumer protection act further protects the consumer from stupid salesman like the one you encountered.

Sorry dude, rather do you own research on tech stuff that ask some pimply faced salesperson for information, they know ef-all.

I noticed. I just go to stores to get actual pricing, can't seem to get contract pricing online - really stupid. And ask the salesman their opinions.. Hilarious usually.

I went into a vodascum store and asked the assistant there about the new Android phones. He proceeded to tell me: "I don't like HTC phones". At this point I had a huge set of potential retorts, but I proceeded with the most basic one, "why?".

"The guy that trained us on HTC phones was an a##hole, so I don't like HTC phones."

Yup, these are the people that are supposed to guide customers to choose the correct handset for themselves. Let's not even get going on the fact that Android phones does not mean HTC phones. :D

There is a reason why they only work in shops...

Not hijacking thread but... once went to an AudioVisual shop in MallAtReds to get a 10m AV cable. Salesman told me everyone has just the standard 3-5m ones, I need to go to WireComm or such to have a 10m one made up. "But," he said, "make sure they make the A and V cables EXACTLY the same length otherwise you will have lipsync problems" :wtf:

LOL, i am sure he was making a joke there.......

....surely?

No really, if your A cable is a few kilometers longer than your V cable it can add a fraction of a second delay.

Very annoying

Oh he was quite serious. I also couldn't believe it, my son kept telling me to close my mouth :)

Thanks for that Hi-jack. Do these guys not realize consumers read up about these things on the internet before they buy?

When i was looking at phones before i upgraded to my Galaxy S, i went into an HTC store to look at the Desire... the salesman told me its 450 times faster than the galaxy S because it runs android 2.2 and the galaxy S runs symbian!!!

i was like, lolwut :erm:??? then i corrected him and left to buy my Galaxy S, haha :D

Good day brothers

I can upgrade in less than a month and I already decided that I am going to jump on the Android bandwagon. I have my eyes on either the HTC Wildfire or HTC Legend, so I decided to go to my local Vodashop in the Roodepoort (Jhb.) area.

The purpose of my visit was to get an idea of how much each of these would cost and if the price was right, to ask them to order because I don’t want to wait another month for them to order the phone.

I went to the shop and waited my turn. When my number was up, I asked the sales assistant about the phones. He looked at me like I am talking about some new kind of a disease and immediately told me that he is not an HTC expert and that HTC phones aren’t that good or popular anyway.

I felt my blood slowly starting to boil.

The discussion went on and I finally asked him about the Wildfire. He told me that he never heard of this phone. I then told him that Vodacom is advertising it on TV (during Idols). He started arguing with me saying that if the phone was available in SA, Vodacom is probably still testing it.

I didn’t want to continue my argument with this arrogant, ill informed sales assistant anymore, so I politely asked him that if the phone passes Vodacom’s testing and becomes available during this month, how long before my upgrade date must I come to the store to place an order. He told me that they cannot order more than 1 week before upgrade.

I then thanked him for the information and left the store – blood boiling! I didn’t even get to asking him about the Legend.

Questions
======
1) Can anyone confirm that the HTC Wildfire is available on Vodacom? The TV ad said R135 p/m with 30 MB data and 50 SMS’s free each month.

2) Does anybody know what the best deal on the HTC Legend on Vodacom is? I cannot find anything on the Wildfire or Legend on the Vodacom Direct or Vodacom websites.

3) In your experience, how long before hand should I go to the store to ask them to order?

Thanks!

According to my stock update (dated 18.10.2010) the wildfire is in stock with warehouse. It is available to order.

It depends hey. Are you due already for your upgrade? My stores place their orders with me on Mondays and Wednesdays...but should they urgently require a phone they will send me a order in between.

I'm only due on 16 November. Is a week in advance enough warning for the store to order?
