Salt Water Chlronator

Hi

I have a strange question. How do I know whether my chlorinator is working? My pool is very green, if test the water I get a zero chlorine reading. However chlorinator meter reads above 10, there is enough salt in the pool and the pump is on for 12 hours plus per day.

I live in CT so it isn't rain or thunderstorms.

1. Test for stabiliser.
2. The chlorinator cell should be replaced every four/five years.

According to the test strip there is sufficient stabiliser and I think the cells are only about 3 years old.

Or you have way too much algae and the amount of chlorine that the salt chlorinator is making is too little to kill off the chlorine.

If thats the case just thrown in a **** ton of chlorine (4-5 cups) every 12 hours for about 3 days. Scrub the walls and backwash daily.

With water restrictions backwashing daily is not an option nor recommended.

Your chlorinator will only produce a constant amount of chlorine so you can't compensate for evaporation or lost through swimming.

What you may want to do is install a cover or add a floater to the water during summer.

Those small lizards love the warm area in the power pack make sure they're not stuck in there.

Sorry, should have said backwash daily whilst keeping the chlorine level extremely high to kill off and dispose of the algae.

I find that even with my chlorinator I still have to add hth from time to time. Especially when the pump was not running for a few days. Chlorinator won't get the chlorine level to where it should be, but will keep it there once the level is reached. That's my experience, maybe I'm doing it wrong though.

Also, in your cell you should see the white clouds of chlorine and use highest setting.

With a pool always start with the pH. Only look at others once that is in check otherwise you'll be wasting your time and money.

It is most propably your cell that is not working.
I have the same issue right now.
When testing or running, you still see the meter showing a reading.
This is just the current running over the cell due to the salt water.
Either replace the cell or repair....
