hello
im a bit of a nubee when it comes to linux/unix....

was just wondering what the following lines in the smb.conf file mean :

- valid users = %S
- valid users = %U

If you're a n00b, why do you even bother with the samba config file? Honestly.

These are variables passwd when you log in. If you type 'man smb.conf' you'll see an explanation of all of it:

%S = the name of the current service, if any.
%U = session username (the username that the client wanted, not necessarily the same as the one they got).
