Samsung 2494HS not switching off?

Hi,

I;ve got the above mentioned monitor. It's got it's own power cable (not run from the PSU). However, the monitor does not switch off when I switch off the PC, I need to switch it off. Is this normal or just something that I didn't set up correctly?

No, it will only go into standby mode. You have to physically switch it off yourself.

If it did not do this how would it turn itself back on again when you switched the pc on?

It doesn't seem like it goes into standby mode either. It keeps trying to find a source by scanning Analog and Digital and doesn't stop.

Just do what i do and switch it off when you power down. Takes 2 seconds. I will check if mine does the same i have never thought about it because i always turn my monitors off.

Yeah, I've been doing that. Got my monitor about 2 weeks back. Got my dad the Samsung 2333SW and does the same.

Do you think the monitors could get damaged if their not turned off?

No, they should simply go to standby after awhile. Just switch them off yourself when you shutdown.

I have a T220, after shutdown it also searches for a signal (analog/digital/analog/digital ect. ) for about 30sec. after which it goes into standby mode... But I switch it off anyway before I go to sleep

Yeah I've got a T240. I usually just lie in bed and stream movies/series wirelessly to the PS3 so I'm rather lazy to get out and switch the monitor off. Used to get annoyed at first but thought I'd let it do its thing and see what happens.. and as FuNkEr says, it searches for about 30secs and the screen goes off on its own with the just the red light indicating its on standby. I leave it on standby now mostly

I got the 2333sw, It'll search for around a minute then go into standby mode (nothing on screen). I switch it off manually after I'm done for the day, doesn't take much effort ;-)

I know this is an old post - but I recently bought two 2494HS LCD's and was quite annoyed by the fact that they dont turn off automatically when you the PC off. I found that if you change the "Auto Source" setting from Automatic to Manual, then it turns itself off when you shut down your PC.

Errm mabe that only works on the 2494HS, on the 2333SW's it still stays on standby mode when you switch the pc off.

just leave it. i did that with mine. it will scan for a while and finally give up and power down (or at least mine does).

Funny, when i switched to an ATI card though, and I do a suspend, it now turns off. lol

N1sh - the problem that the original poster mentions is that it does not turn off ......or go into standby. The screen stays on and it scans continuously betyween HDMI, Analogue and Digital. I have left it for more than 10 mins and it still does that.

As I mentioned, if you set "auto Source" to Manual, it will go into standby mode (blinking blue LED) as other monitors do.

Works on the T240/T260, took me a while to figure out though.

I cant get my second 2494HS to go into standby mode automatically. I think its the source I use. Its wall-mounted in my bedroom and connected to an LG DVD player which I use to watch USB movies via HDMI cable. Even if I change Auto Source to Manual, it just says "check cable" when I switch off the DVD player - does not standby automatically.

Fortunately, the monitor has a sleep timer, so a 2hour sleep setting allows it to turn off automatically (most movies are shorter than 2 hours anyway). Not ideal, but its a work-around.
