So I have been reading through the various threads on LCD's, and I am about to purchase this for my bedroom in which I will generally watch from about 2.5 metres away.

Pick n Pay have it for R5899, and since I get 8% cash back from them it works out to R5428. Can anybody think of another 32" that is better than this one? Hirsch's has the same one for me for R5800, but Makro is considerably more expensive at R6499 for which I am assuming is the same model.

Since my viewing will mainly be for tv, and just plain 'Sd' channels generally (although I will have Hd soon) I figure that the Samsung is a better bet than the Sinotech 32".

I had this before I upgraded to a 42". It was - AWESOME. I still almost miss it.

Dunno why the prices are still so high on those, I bought mine a year ago for R5999-00. You might wanna check the prices at Hirsch, and maybe get an extended warranty. Don't just ask over the phone, either. Salesmen always give you special prices (the marked prices are bullsh*t).

I tend to find Hirsch's about 5% more expensive than most places, then when you walk in they always throw the word discount around and knock off 5%, so you feel like you are getting a good deal but the reality is you are not. R5800 was the 'special' price they offered me, I might get it down but I dont think they will beat the R5428.

Also I have no intention of having this tv for longer than the 2 year warranty already offered on it, so not really worried about getting an extended warranty.

32" and 2.5 meters doesn't sound like its gonna work out. for that distance i think 37 minimum but 42" preferable.

I own this tv in my lounge[im in a flat] and its pretty darn impressive!
I use it with hdmi for xbox and its very beautiful.
My first choice was the phillips 32 inch[hd ready not full 1080]
If you want reliability the samsung is pretty solid, many of my friends bought a tv around the same time and have alot of grief with their purchases.[dead pixels, screen deterioration etc]
One of the best little known features of the samsung series 3 lcd's is the lack of dead pixels across the series 3 range.
Just be sure to double check for dead pixels!
And if you have any do not accept more then 3!
I had a sansui nightmare!-twice in one day.

Cool, I think it's pretty much a done deal. Will make sure to check.

I would tend to agree, but I don't think the price difference for another 5" or 10" is worth it. I did look at the Sinotech 42", but it doesn't compare to the Samsung on normal channels.

definitely not if you think mathematically/logically :) ( Rand/Inch). but if you're sitting in-front of it, you'll understand that extra screen real estate is worth the exponential cost increase ;)

Perhaps you are right, but not for my bedroom.

Went to Pick n Pay Hypermarket to buy it, but apparently you can't buy a tv in SA after 6pm because the tv license department is closed. ^*&$% Stupid stupid laws in this country...
