Hi,

Game has a special on a Samsung HD Ready LCD TV for R3999, is this a good buy? Does anyone else have a similar one?

Then there is a Logik, also 32", but it is Full HD for R3999 as well.
 
My one got stolen "Samsung 32 HD ready LCD TV", it was decent, but get the Full HD rather, nothing wrong with Logik at that price.
 
If I had to choose between the 2, it would be Samsung.

At 32" then you shouldn't really be able to tell the difference between Full HD and HD Ready. I would rather go for the Samsung.
 
A friend of mine has got one. It's not the best, but good at that price. His suffers from heavy judder. Maybe his input isn't good though. But between the 2, go Samsung. As iceman says, at that size, you going to strain to see the difference in FHD / HdReady
 
We have a very similar Samsung (just the exact model has changed). It's a very very nice TV and you won't be able to notice a difference really between that and Full HD, as the concentration of pixels is too high for your eyes to really notice at that size.
If I watch 720p movies on that screen the quality is just amazing.
 
I bought the Sony EX-400 32" full HD yesterday at Digital Cats for R5500 very impressed with the TV.

That's what I thought. My one friend has a similar HD TV (not too sure about the specs) and when we watch normal DSTV, the picture quality is not that good at all.

Is this the same issue with all the HD TV's, or has there been improvements?
 
You should go for the Logic as full HD is what its all about. You will see a difference. On DSTV you need to take the HD option to enjoy the HD quality. Lotsa movie dvd's now have upscaling so that tv can handle the resolution the full HD that is. If you want to go for the cosmetic appeal and HD does not interest you then the Samsung HD ready would be a good buy. In the states all the channels now present in HD & 5.1 and when we go digital in about a year then you would really be able to enjoy full HD and trust me there is a difference once you get used to that quality you would find it difficult to watch another below that quality.

Yes everyone has that problem.
What happens if you watch a 800x600 clip on a 1360x768 screen? Yip it looks pixilated. Well normal DSTV is way worse than 800x600 i think!

DSTV HD is only 720p (HD ready), not 1080p (Full HD). Even overseas, the current standard is 720p. The only reason to get Full HD is if you're going to watch blu-rays, use the TV as a PC screen or play 1080p PS3/Xbox games.

I heard some LCD's makes it barely unnoticeable, is that true? What is it called? Does that have something to do with HD upscaling?

Bluray's will work great on a HD Ready?

If you're going to watch blu-rays, rather get a Full HD LCD/Plasma. Blu-rays will look good on a HD ready LCD but would look even better on a Full HD LCD as you would see all the detail. On a 32" though, you'd have to be sitting real close to see the difference, but there will be a difference.
 
You can get the Samsung 32' LA32B530 Full HD LCD with 3 year warranty for R4999 at Game till 4 April.

If you can spare the R1000 get the full HD. Especially if you want to watch blu rays and play PS3/Xbox.

If money is tight, go for the HD Ready.

Rather wait and get a Full HD a tv usually last 5 or more years that's why I buy something worthwhile the first time.
