Hi

I am in the market for a 42-47 inch LED 3D TV. I'm not interested in this turning in to a plasma vs LED/LCD thread,

All I need to know is which 3D technology is better? I see LG has the cinema 3D? What is that?

Only way is to compare them yourself. Some people prefer active 3D, some people prefer passive 3D.

I go the LG 42" LED 3D TV 42LM5800 and am more than happy with the performance, its actually perfect. Haven't had a single problem with it and even when I convert the normal DSTV from 2D to 3D it works quite well.

The picture quality is also awesome. But as has been mentioned, the best is to go look for yourself. I was in the same situation and even tho was leaning towards the LG for the Cinema 3D (heard only good reviews about it) I still went and looked and compared other brands but at the end of the day the LG was the best option to go for.

I was also looking at this model! How does it perform when watching sport? No ghosting or lagging?

I mainly bought the TV for watching soccer and other sports, HD movies and gaming and its great. No ghosting or lagging at all. It also has the trumotion 120Hz Technology - "TruMotion 120Hz technology lets you see sports, video games and high-speed action with virtually no motion blur. Now your TV can keep up with your fast-moving entertainment."

But as mentioned earlier, go have a look at it and test it out if you are unsure, but all I can say is that I don't have a single doubt in my mind that I went for the wrong TV.

Thank you so much for your help! I see dion wired has it for 7.5k. I then called game aswell as hifi corp and they have it for 8k and 8.5k respectively, but they do have the "beat any price guarentee" so I might even get the TV for cheaper!

I will also mainly use it for soccer, gaming and the occasional HD and 3D movies.

Yeah those are the same prices I got when I looked around. Luckily for me tho when it was time to go buy, Makro had it on special for R6999 so I quickly left work to get it (it was one of those limited quantity deals). Maybe try calling Makro and see what they are selling it for. Other than that those are the prices they are going for.

Even tho I got 4 pairs of glasses with the TV, Makro sell the 5 Pack Party Box which includes 5 pairs of 3D glasses (I need alot as friends come over to watch sport so it's something different ;) ). The glasses you get in the Party Box are way better build quality, but work just aswell as the included ones. Just something to consider.

On a side-note, the 3D is AMAZING! But I will be honest I haven't used it as much as I'd like to, but when I have used it, it has been great and also XBOX gaming in 3D is something else!

I don't own a HD PVR so can't answer relating to the PVR. But what I can say is I have two units that are constantly connected via HDMI - 1. my media player and 2. my Xbox. I never switch the media player off, even when I am watching normal DSTV it is always on. When I do watch content from the media player, I change the source to HDMI(where the media player is plugged in) and am able to use it straight away - so there is no disabling when not in use - haven't had that issue at all to be honest, even when the XBOX is also on and I change over to watch TV, when I switch back to the XBOX, it's ready to go straight away.

So in short, no, I haven't experienced any issues like that whatsoever, be it if I am watching DSTV, playing Xbox or watching something off the media player.

thank you so much. You really are a great help. will go tonight to purchase the TV. I'm really excited

i see you get this LG 42" 3D TV in a 55" aswell... if one goes for the 55", will the picture quality differ from the 42" ? don't know if its a dumb question, just asking it anyway :p

Depends on viewing distance, they both have the same resolution (1920x1080).

With the larger 55" you'll better be able to appreciate the full fidelity of 1080p at a further distance, again this will vary on your eyesight.

The larger screen will also provide a more immersive experience since more of you field of view is covered by the image (more like a cinema).

my tv is about 5m from where i sit... i still got the Sony Bravia 40" LCD :p nee to upgrade, but don't know if the time is right???

I hear the lg lm5800 range are not "smart TV's" and don't have internet connectivity... But they say that the TV does have dlna.. Is this true? Also how does one update the firmware on these TVs?

Wouldn't be too useful since neither integrated WiFi nor an Ethernet port are included on the LM5800. If it does support DLNA, then assume its for use with optional USB WiFi dongle?

How useful is the 2D to 3D converter for normal channels? I need to find time to get to a store for a demo. I'm wondering if this is a worthy "bonus" on these newer 3D TVs. The LM9600 LGs look nice, pity they don't have a 42" version though.

im gonna go hunt down another thread i saw someone posting about DLNA on the LM5800... will post in there shortly to clarify :)
