Hi all,

I need to buy a new phone. Looking for decent battery life, camera, fingerprint unlock and longevity.

Looking at A24 or A34 currently but open to others. Max budget R6500.

1. A34 is 2k more. Do you think it's worth it? I'd like something that will last a few years so I'm thinking the extra 2GB memory is worth it..

2. Vodacom online seems to be cheapest for these models: R4199 for A24 and R6199 for A34. Any reason not to buy from them? I don't want network locked (not sure if that's still a thing)!

3. Any alternatives I should be considering?

TIA!

My sister upgraded her Vodacom number Saturday after her old Samsung A51 croacked. Well, it still powers on, but it constantly starts hanging and then goes into a boot loop. She got the Samsung A34 and so far she is very happy with it. It is snappy and responsive.

went from a crappy Xiaomi 11 pro to a A34 ,the A34 is brilliant compared to the other .my daughter now took the A34 and i bought an A54 ,both very nice phones ,stay away from the china junk .

Thank you all. I don't think I'd go for a used phone for this purchase. Have decided on the A34.

Any feedback about ordering it from vodacom online?

Please keep us updated as I'm also leaning towards A34.. They have a great deal with a tablet for R398 pm which I want to grab.. Currently using the p30 lite which is still going strong

Ordered the A34 from Vodacom for R6199, hopefully not network locked. Their call centre said it wasn't. Let's see how long delivery takes!

It's illegal to sell network locked phones in SA

I took a chance and bought an A13, no performance issues. My last expensive Samsung was the S9, but I dont really notice any performance difference. But I am just a general phone user. So need for high end phones and prices:

When did that change?
It did not change. It never was illegal. There were proposal to make it illegal I believe but never materialized. Vodacom went for many years not selling network locked phones. Only the last year or two have they started doing so again. Only on certain models though. Some dual sim phones under a certain price bracket is locked in the sense that the phone dual sim functionality will only work if a Vodacom sim is in the main sim slot...and even then the secondary sim will be locked to voice only. No data.

Sure it was illegal but good to know

Anybody buying that phones deserves to be screwed by vodacon. We all know they are thieves yet people still support them and complain.

I have to agree. Been a vodacom subscriber since 1999, still am, but I will never buy a phone from them - they totally f....k up the firmware with their restrictions and bloatware and logos.
