So I was watching a blu-ray movie, more specifically the special features when my blu-ray player decided to switch off. I switch it back on and it now displays this "FAN NG" error on the front then after a short while switches off again.

I have checked the manual for what "FAN NG" is and there is no mention of it anywhere, typical.. I know that there is a fan at the back.

This is what I have: http://www.samsung.com/latin_en/con...dex.idx?pagetype=prd_detail&tab=specification

Anyone have any idea what the problem could be?

UPDATE: It won't give my Harry Potter disc back :(

Also "Googled" it and couldn't find anything more than a rant about the same problem. :(

Is the Bluray player still under warranty? Always gotta ask this.

You say this player has a fan. Have you checked to see that it's actually spinning when the
players on? Obviously, if the it's still under warranty you can't open it to check inside.

Yes it is, it's only like 2 weeks old at the most. Going to phone Samsung/Makro tomorrow about it. The problem is that it's gobbled up one of my harry potter disc's and it's a collection so not sure how I'm going to get it back :(

It has a fan yes, but when the blue ray player is on, it's not spinning, I don't feel any air coming out at the back.

FAN NG = FAN NO GOOD i.e. not working. It has probably seized due to dust. Maybe you could just try to turn the blades gently with a thin plastic ink tube from a ballpoint pen, short piece of trimmer twine etc. (if you can reach them) to see if it won't start to spin. Have you tried to cool the unit with an external fan to see if it functions. You could also try to gently clean out any dust (or rotate the blades) with a blower.

There is no dust, the unit is brand new, will try to turn the fan later today. From what I can tell though the fan doesn't turn at all.
