Hi Guys

As I get a contract allowance from the company which is a use or loose type thing; is there anywhere that is offering the Note 10.1 on contract? Preferably Vodacom, but that is negotiable.

I am really disappointed with the resolution of the Note 10.1. At that price level I will look for something with a higher resolution. Can't understand whát Samsung was thinking when they decided on that resolution.

800 x 1280 pixels, 10.1 inches (~149 ppi pixel density) = Note 10.1

vs

1920 x 1200 pixels, 10.1 inches (~224 ppi pixel density) = Asus

I was waiting for the Note 10.1 ... until I saw the screen specs. I'm now looking elsewhere.

Samsung knew what the iPad "3" specs were long before their Note 10.1 launch (iPad = 1536 x 2048 pixels, 9.7 inches (~264 ppi pixel density)) ... why come in at such a high price point with such a low spec screen Samsung? Is the idea with thát stylus not to make best use of a high density high res screen? This is what surprises me so often with these Korean products ... they get obvious things wrong ... it leaves one completely flabbergasted at times.

Same here. After doing some research, I discovered that the reason for the low screen res is that the current chips are not fast enough or do not have sufficient capacity on the bus or graphics chip to support higher resolutions.

However, the new Samsung chip will be launched soon (forgot the name) on a rumoured Galaxy Tab 11.6" tablet. We'll have to wait and see. The other tablet I am highly disappointed with is the Google Nexus 7, as it has no 3G connectivity. Rumour has it that Google will be releasing a 3G version in time for the festive season. Now I have to wait even longer for a decent Android tablet.

The new Asus Infinity 700 3G is a very good Android tablet ... the leader of the pack now. I like the 7" tablets and the Samsung 7" Plus is a very good choice. I bought two for work and they are doing very well. HTC Flyers trumps all at work though ... but unfortunately a thing of the past.

Ouch, ok, I really didn't think it was that big an issue. I was looking forward to this tablet. Seems I should take a bit more time and look elsewhere.

It's only a problem if it matters to you - the crowd here is a hard bunch to please :)

Go and have a look at one, and see if it works for you.

From reading the specs it seems perfect for what I would use it for. Look, currently I have a Blackberry Playbook which has served me very well. It's not everyones cup of tea sure, but for what I required it was brilliant.

I would like to go and look at the Note 10.1, so if anyone sees it on display somewhere please let me know?

I've seen it on display in the Samsung store in Vodacom World. You can try the one in Clearwater as well.

Generally I am happy with the tablet, with the exception of one or two minor things. The screen resolution is not one of them - that's much of a muchness for me.

So I finally went around and had a look at the tablet. I must say I think it's really good. Screen resolution is not a problem for what I will be doing with it. But Vodacom tells me they don't have it on their contract price plans yet. Anyone know any different?

SAMSUNG GALAXY NOTE 10.1 N8000 @ R 290 PM + R 99 ON STD MY GIG 1 FOR 24 MTHS / TOP UP DATA STD MY GIG 1 FOR 24 MTHS (TOTAL R389 PM)
SAMSUNG GALAXY NOTE 10.1 @ R 280 PM + R 149 ON STD MY GIG 2 FOR 24 MTHS / TOP UP DATA STD MY GIG 2 FOR 24 MTHS (TOTAL R429 PM)

I have a Note 10.1, its great and fast.
The whole screen resolution issue is a non issue to me really. Frankly, I struggle to see what all the fuss is about, other than apple fanboyz trying to hype it up.
As a working tablet its great.
For now I would rather have a faster tablet than one that just looks marginally prettier if you have a super critical eye.
Split screen function I find useful.

My biggest gripe is Samsung themselves. How on earth they can sell a premier tablet and not bother to have the essential screen protectors and cases or covers available at the same time is an epic fail.
Ì have sent them mails, called them, looked high and low but nothing.
Managed to find a very helpful chap at incredible connection in Sandton City that had some kit for the older tabs that work, tight fit but good enough for now.

Galaxy Note 10.1 R4899 exclusive for the 16Gb model. Price valid until 13th Sept and cash or EFT only. Seems like a good buy..

Sneeky, Samsung accessories are not as common/easy to find as that of iPads as the market for these tablets are very small. Only Samsung's own stuff ... and that for some strange reason is not ordered by the shops. Samsung's own covers etc are however seriously overpriced and often of inferior quality (my original/official Samsung Note 1 leather case lasted two months then it fell appart). When I got my GT10.1 from MTN they issued it with a case worth (I saw recently) R800 ... very smart of them. The S3, because it is now so popular, has accessories available everywhere. Dion Wired here in CT carries a gazillion different cases for it. The Samsung tablets may not be that lucky. Samsung's own shops (like the one in Canal Walk here in CT) is often one's only hope ... but be prepared to pay a premium. This is where iPad is streets ahead (because it sells so well).
