Anyone on AOSP using other kernels, and what would you recommend? I changed to the latest build of Paranoid Android today and would like to try some kernels. I used to use Siyakernel on my S3, but it seems that it's not available for the Note 2.
I don't care much for features like dual boot because all I want is a good kernel.
Does the ROM you use have the pen features?
I have been using custom AOSP Roms for close to a month now with non of the TouchWiz features present...And I have yet to miss any of them.
The speed and regular updates to these roms are really worth it for me. I like my phone to run lean and quick so I won't be going back to a TW rom again!
Exactly my sentiment.
I don't miss TW specific features at all, and the speed and fluidity is a 'must' for me now - no turning back, no-sir-ee.
If you like to edit photos, 'Photo Desk' still has S-Pen features enabled somehow. Even airview (though you don't see the actual dot, the information about the photo in the photo gallery still pops up when pen hovered above it).
Like Dom1n8tr1x says, drawing still works perfectly IMO.
Unpossible, what custom ROM are you running presently? I'm on CarbonROM 1.7, but I hear nowadays, ParanoidAndroid 'is where it's at' ...
Why dont you update to Carbon 1.8?
I flashed the latest Paranoid to my Note 2 a couple days ago, and I must admit it's much more fluid and bug free than CarbonRom. They now have Halo integrated into Paranoid and it's a very nice little feature. I do miss some customization on Paranoid that you get with CarbonRom, but it's nothing I can't live without.
I have redpill currently and i must say it is quite a bit quicker than NEAK that I had before that, even though the dev states that he built the kernel for usability, not for benchmarks.
But it "feels" good. I will let you know how it goes after a few days. No wakelocks yet!![]()
How do you find Paranoid so far?
Looks like a delay in 4.2.2...
Seems to be for crud that I turn off anyway. I wonder how much more space this will take up on the phone?
"KOREAN PHONE MAKER Samsung reportedly has delayed the rollout of Android 4.2 Jelly Bean for the Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2, which means it will no longer be arriving this month.
These reports come via Sammobile, which briefly tweeted, "Samsung delayed 4.2.2 for Note II and S III. Reason for new TW for S III and Note II."
While that tweet makes little sense, the Samsung news website goes on to explain that Samsung is looking to bring the Touchwiz user interface found on the Galaxy S4 to these older handsets, citing that as the reason for the delay.
However, there's no word on when Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean will be rolled out for the Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2, and Samsung told us that "it does not comment on rumour or speculation". It's worth noting that the June release date also came via the online rumour mill, and Samsung has yet to announced a rollout date.
It's also still unclear which new features will be coming to the Samsung Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 once the update is eventually rolled out. However, with Sammobile claiming that Samsung is looking to bring the latest version of Touchwiz to these two ageing handsets, it's likely that new software features such as Smart Scroll and Smart Pause will appear in the update.
Speculation also suggests that Samsung will bring updated camera features, including Dual Shot mode, to the two older handsets, as well as some of its latest apps such as S Translator.
We'll update this article when we hear more."

Maybe I should try Redpill, my phone's not going to sleep as much as it should. Somethings not right, but I'm determined and will find the culprit.
I'm very dependent on the call "Blocking Mode" feature, am I right that this is a TW feature?
