The S4 is faster than the Note 2 so only really an upgrade in terms of screen size.

Having had my S4 since July or so I can honestly say I prefer the Note 2

But will it still be a good buy in it's old age, with Lollipop only accessible via rooting....

Nice to seem some activity in this thread again! Who's still rocking a Note 2? Mine's a little over 3 years old, rooted, running CyanogenMod 12.1 and still giving me very decent battery life. Hands down the most reliable phone I've ever owned.

Same here. Still on CM 11 though...wish one could upgrade to 12 through the nightly interface.

Agreed, that would be convenient. Pretty much everything on my phone backs up to somewhere so flashing a new ROM is far less painful these days. If you do want to make the jump, CM13 (Marshmallow) for the Note 2 seems to be getting more stable by the day. Go check it out at the XDA forums: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-2/orig-development/rom-cyanogenmod-13-0-n7100-t3267758

Personally, I wouldn't make the switch to CM13 just yet. There's still a small Wifi issue that seems to have an effect on the battery. From reports I've read on the forum everything else seems to be going well.

Thanks, think I'll keep an eye on the XDA thread and wait till that's sorted then and skip cm12 altogether.

Same but it has become a bit laggy of late. What would you guys recommend flashing with...? (I tried once then failed so haven't tried again)
