Samsung Galaxy Note 2

What modem are you all using?

I am trying out the latest cyanogen nightlies, and think that I could do with a better modem...currently on XXDLK7

Not sure whether you tried this (not apparent from your message) but when you are presented with the two options and you select dialler, is there not an option to select 'always' instead of 'just once'?

Yes there is, but if you select "always" it gives this message:

So it actually tells me to do what I've done already

That is not an instruction. If you follow that every time you select an app to use "always" you will be presented the choice over and over again. Only do that if you want to change the app which you set to perform a certain function.

+1

It only tells you that in case you want to clear the default from the 'always' you just selected, or if you accidentally chose 'always' and would like to reverse your decision

Hi guys.

Recently I find myself wanting a tablet, but the problem is what tablet? If my phone was smaller I would probably just go for the new Nexus 7, but at 5.5” the Note 2 is pretty close to 7” tablets as far as size goes. Or is it?

What tablet would you recommend? Will a 7” tablet feel like a tablet compared to my 5.5” phone? Any 10” tablets out there worth noting? What about something between 7” and 10”?

Your suggestions are welcome.

IMO, like you say, 5.5" and 7" is pretty close, and although there is a functional difference still, to me it won't be enough.

Not sure about exact size (around 10" mark) but the Sony Xperia Z tablet looks really awesome, is thin and has good specs.

Go to downloaded apps from your settings menu, open the fnb app and select clear defaults and yu are sorted

What modem are you guys and girls using? Especially if you're still running the stock Samsung (Touchwiz) rom?

I am using an AOSP ROM, but my modem is still the original that I got with the stock ROM :

N7100XXALIH

Thanks.

I've gone back to CarbonRom from Cyanogen nightlies, and data connection is much better, despite having same modem.

For those who want to know, the latest stable version of CarbonRom has been released...

Paranoid android 3.94 is out. I think it's one of the first 4.3 Roms :-) apparently a few minor issues still need to be sorted tho... I will wait another month or so to give the devs time to stabilise everything first.

Do you use the same kernel for both Roms? Also, are you referring to Carbon v1.8?

Yes Carbon 1.8. Working great so far, not one issue yet...

I actually did not check up on which kernel I was using, I assumed cyanogen comes with its own. Right now it seems I am using the CarbonRom kernel.

Yeah I think it is a good idea to wait a little while longer for 4.3 :o

I am considering moving to Carbon from LiquidSmooth as well. Good to hear its running smoothly :)

My reason for asking about the kernels was, as far as I know, it directly influences your data connections. I often read about the devs making changes to the wifi drivers etc in their kernels.

I am not 100% sure how the modem changes things, but I would assume it has to do with your call signal.

Thanks, I did not consider it, but I believe you are correct. :)

I am glad I moved back to CarbonRom anyway as I missed some of the features... If you ask me in a week's time (I'm forgetful), I'll report back :-)

So does anyone have any idea when the Note 2 will receive the 4.3 release/update?

Damn! just did a quick search and the rumour is that it will only be released around November 2013... I think that is way to long to wait
