Samsung Galaxy Note 2

There were November rumors for 4.2.2...
Ill be surprised if they release it that close to the release of the Note 3. Stealing thunder and all that

The Note 2 LTE version is skipping 4.2.2 so it's a reasonable conclusion that the non-LTE version might too...

Yes very happy, happier than previous version. Very stable. Can't remember any FC's happening. Very fast and smooth.

Hi guys

I have the N7100 Note 2. Are any of you also using this phone with a custom TouchWiz based ROM?

If so, which ROM are you using?

I would like to stay with TouchWiz because the N7100 uses Samsung's Exynos processor which is not officially supported by AOSP ROMs. TouchWiz is kind of ugly, but I would prefer a stable device with propper S Pen support so yeah - which TouchWiz ROM rules the N7100 roost?

Thanks!

Ps. You can try to convince me to try an AOSP ROM - I might just listen...

Pss. I'm already rooted and not afraid of flashing ROMs. My old Galaxy S was customised to the max :D

Omega ROM seems to be the best, most stable and most well supported Samsung based custom ROM. It offers tons of features.

I use an AOSP ROM, CarbonRom 1.8. It offers the very latest that Android 4.2.2 has to offer, very useful customisation options but not like too much itty bitty overwhelming amount of options like AOKP. I find it extremely stable. But best of all: it is noticeable faster and smoother! Once I had AOSP there was just no way I could return to what felt like very sluggish Samsung based ROMs (and I did try)... I am now too spoiled.

I don't miss any Touchwiz specific stuff. S Pen works in the way I want it to work, eg for when I want to sign off on documents. Airview I don't miss at all. You do get apps to return some very nice S Pen functionality, even more than Touchwiz. Can't think of it now, though.

Thanks FreeStanler

I'm starting to consider AOSP a bit more now. I have in any case disabled or froze most of Samsung's "features" using Titanium Backup, so I won't miss them.

My main concern is with the lack of Exynos support in AOSP, but if you say it is stable I might just jump ship.

I quite like Samsung's camera. How is the Carbon camera? Is it the same as the one found on Nexus phones with photo spere etc?

What about GPS? Does it get a good lock on satelites and is it stable? I use the GPS quite often and it is important to me.

From previous experience I would guess that the FM radio is gone..? Not a problem though, because I don't use it.

Thanks!

I flashed Carbon yesterday, and I must say, it is very nice and smooth. Very stable as well.

Odd thing happened tho, I flashed the RedPill Kernel this morning and when the phone had rebooted, it looked like I had just installed the ROM. All my setting etc were gone.

When flashing a kernel I always go through the steps, wipe cache, wipe dalvic, and then install. Never had this happen before on any other ROM.

I am curious if this has happened to anyone else?

hi. can anyone help me. i am looking for the name of the app that allows editing of PDF's. someone sent me something in pdf format that i need to sign and would prefer just editing and signing it as opposed to printing, signing and scanning

I use an app called signeasy. It allows you to have 3 signatures and initials. Works great and its a free app on Google play

Guys

I just went back to stock after losing my IMEI while flashing a kernel. I was lucky that everything is back to normal after restoring my original setup. I did however have my efs folder backed up, but i couldn't get it restored again. So as a last resort I restored my backup and all was well again :-)

So this is a heads up to everyone who plans on flashing roms/kernels in the near future.

I've heard about this happening to many people, guess I'm just fortunate that it has never happened to me (touch wood) in the four years that I've owned Android devices.

On another note, anyone else here tried PA 4.3? I've been running it for two weeks now and I'm very happy with it so far.

It's just unbelievable how much more snappy and fluid my device is compared to the stock Samsung roms.

From what I understand, it has been happening more and more often because of a few fairly big changes in the way the ROMS/Kernels access or uses the nv ram. It was a change that Google made and as it gets incorporated in the newer versions of the custom roms etc, this happens. That's probably why no one ever really bothered to add a step in all the flashing guides to tell everyone to backup their imei.

I also flashed roms and kernels often with no issues. But ja, just make sure to have proper backups everyone :-)

Hi guys

Looking at the last couple of comments above, which tool did you guys use to be able to backup the EFS folder?

I tied to google and found this, but it is not working for me.

Thanks.

I can only tell you what I did, but I can't say which one worked...coz I really don't know haha :)

1) I used an app called Andromizer. The backup was successful and I made a copy onto my external SD as well. When I ran it again later after having lost the IMEI, it said restore complete/successful, but still no IMEI after a reboot.

2) I also copied the efs folder to my external as another backup. There is a guide on XDA where you delete the corrupted efs folder via root explorer and paste/over write it with the backup folder.

I tried both with no success. Then as a last resort I restored my stock rom backup via cwm and it was fixed!

So I can't really say what fixed it, maybe a combination of all of it. I hope that the CWM Dev adds a backup efs option at some point.

PA 4.3 on Note II? Where'd u find that?

Hi guys.

So I have been running Carbon ROM 1.8 on my N7100 Note 2 for the past 2 weeks or so.

Which kernel do you guys consider to be the best? I'm currently using the NEAK kernel, but found that my phone lags quite a bit when playing Asphalt 8. I looked at the game's comments in the Play store and other Note 2 owners says that it runs smoothly for them.

Which kernel are you using?
