Samsung Galaxy Note 2

Thanks. That worked. I thought you could now roam on 3G though.
This will help though.
The 3G roaming story was a hoax.
I roam everyday while at work, no cell c coverage there. I but the edge roaming is lame.

Damn! Here is cell c coverage where I am at the moment but loses signal at certain spots. It will have to do for a few days then.

Hi Guys.
How is everyone enjoying their N2's.I'm still loving mine. Got myself a 64GB Class 10 SanDisk Micro SDXC card and a cool Black Capcase back cover. Very happy.

If I may ask, how much did you pay for the 64GB Micro SD card, looking at getting one for my Note (only have about 4GB space left on my 32GB card)

Got mine yesterday from FNB...USING cellc...I cut my sim to size..micro sim...no need to buy a new micro sim for now....im loving the phone......now where do I get nice covers for my phablet?
Im in Johannesburg....Auckland Park

It only costs 10 rand to swop to a micro sim. I did that because it was cheaper than buying a cutter.

Hi all,

I just got my new Note 2, and it is awesome. Just one thing that is bugging me - how can you connect the Note 2 to the internet via PC using the USB cable. I know it can obviously be done using wi-fi, but I connect via a 3G modem connected to my laptop. On my old HTC sensation it was no issue, but I'd like to do it on my Note 2 as I need to re-install all my old apps, and don't want to use my cellphone data.

Thanks.

Not too sure how to use it via usb.

Have you tried creating an ad hoc wifi network with your laptop (after the laptop is connected to the internet via 3G), and connecting your Note 2 to that wifi network?

I've tried your suggestion, but either my laptop doesn't have the right kind of network adapter, or I'm doing something wrong, as the Note 2 doesn't see the network. Any other ideas?

There is software to turn your laptop into a wireless router. It was a pick recently on one of the podcasts I listen to. I can't remember which one because I listen to a lot so I'll have a look when I get time.

It is called connectify, you can try that too...it is software you install on your laptop / pc if you have windows 7 or up...

Another possibility:

Your phone needs to be rooted for this one.

I haven't personally tested any of these I have suggested, let us know what happens. These I suggested requires you to use your usb, but you might want to try connectify or google another ad hoc wifi hotspot solution, that might provide you with more freedom in your living space.

Connectify costs a fortune, so I'm thinking I'll just get a router I can plug my 3G modem into, kill two birds with one stone - create a wifi network and be able to connect my Note 2 to the internet. Just need to find out what I need to get to do it. Any idea what I need to look for? It just seems odd that there is no option to do it through USB cable like HTC phones - not everyone has wifi. Thanks for the help. :)

Cool. I couldn't remember but I think the cost thing was my initial problem with Connectify.

The two links I provided for reverse tethering (what you are wanting to do with usb cable) - have you tried those?

Don't know specifically about the 3G router (haven't used one yet), I assume nice instructions will come with it...you probably just insert your sim card that you are using in your 3G dongle, switch on router, connect to the router's setup page via your pc (they'll provide you the url in documentation), enter 3G pin code, save those settings, and voila?

I think the 3G routers also double up as normal routers for if and when you do get ADSL. I assume that they are all pretty good...a but pricier too.

Perhaps you already knew those things, in which case I apologise...

If I'm wrong, someone should just jump in.

I can't find the pick but I did find something called virtual router that is free. I've never used it. Found it on virtualrouter.codeplex.com
