Samsung Galaxy Note 2

Still no N7100 in any Vodacom store anywhere :( and I can't justify the extra cost for LTE seeing as we hardly have the infrastructure and its probably just a battery hog for nothing. Plus I have Wi-Fi wherever I usually go.

I'm going to try one of the Nashua's/Cellucity type stores this weekend. Last I phoned around it seemed every other provider had stock except Vodacom.

i know i'm going to sound stupid, but does anyone know if the note 2 supports video calling?

The answer is right in front of you.

Has it got a front camera? :D

it does have a front camera but i was told there are a few phones that have front camera's but do not support video calling. was that wrong info i was given?

Look at the bottom left green key on the keypad.

But won't you loose all functionality of your S-Pen, or does Ubuntu support it??

Yes you will loose S-Pen functionality. From what I've read Ubuntu Phone cannot be used as a replacement OS just yet since many things still don't work like the apps, but at least you will be able to try it out and get a basic idea what it's like.

I love that S-Pen, so will rather just watch a hands-on review of Ubuntu Phone on YouTube. The Note2 is handicapped without it.

My way makes much more sense. :D

Well, mine is getting very hot at the top of the phone near the camera (when running applications/games). It's nowhere scalding hot, but it's enough to build up a proper finger sweat *cough*. My previous (Desire HD) got slightly warm, but this is on a different level.

You should feel my Galaxy S2 when I'm using Google Navigation on it, or play a game of GTA:Vice City. :)

Same here - I suspect it's not unique to your phone alone but you have to admit that going to be one hell of a 'undocumented feature' come Winter!

I decided to install CarbonRom (4.2.2) with the Signature Blue Theme. Using Nova launcher instead of the default one, it's quite a refreshing experience to use "pure" android again. Unfortunately I loose some S-Pen functionality and all the Samsung apps, but that's something I'm willing to live with for now. Fortunately most S-Pen functionality can be returned by using GMD Spen Control.

So I went and upgraded to the Note 2 on Saturday... stunning phone. But I am having a problem now about 3 - 4 times a day when I access the phone from sleep it say SD Card unexpectedly removed and then straight away Scanning SD Card and then all is fine.

I am not sure why this is occurring? The SD Card worked fine in my previous Note... anybody experiencing the same?

There might be an issue with the SD Card, may need to be formatted or threre may be a problem with the phone itself.

Try another SD card and see if it does the same.

Alright trying out a 4gb one now. Will see how it runs today. Hopefully my 32gb isnt bust... seems to be working fine in my laptop...

Been chomping on the bit for this phone for months (!!!) whilst awaiting my 22month = March'13 contract upgrade with Nashua Mobile (MTN Anytime 350). I've gone through the Cell C, FNB & pre-paid analysis but they're ultimately not ideal for me. I'm price sensitive and will be moving away from BB's BIS/BES, so somewhat worried about uncapped data costs. On my BB I currently do some browsing, social media, gps data - but the bulk of my data = work and personal emails. I foresee browsing consumption will increase somewhat because of the joy of this phone.

Upon further investigation, Nashua Mobile's pricing isn't optimal. Can anyone here suggest where I can get best value for money on a N7100 or N7105? My ideals/priorities - in order of importance:
1) 24 month contract,
2) Good voice network (currently use medium to high volumes),
3) Data (unsure of current consumption),
4) MTN (not necessarily Nashua Mobile although we enjoy some corporate discount on subs & airtime there).

My monthly Nashua Mobile bill maxes around R1,000 and I'd need to come in there or below going forward.

Info: Nashua Mobile quoted me appr. R150/month for a 1GB data bolt-on. Today I heard that MTN SP launched a R60/month for same. This and recent Note2 pricing leads me to believe that regardless of airtime & subs discounts, I'd be getting a raw deal at Nashua Mobile...

Thanks in advance!

cell c has the best deals for the note 2 AFAIK. i've been shopping around as i am now due for an upgrade. have a look on their website on the build your own contract option, choose the phone and then you can check what it will cost you on different packages. they have a good deal for R399. 100 mins, 100sms's and 400mb data. and after your 100 mins, you're billed at 99c/min which is the cheapest in the market i think. running a R1000 bill on a mtn contract would be around 300-400 mins if i'm not mistaken, with cell c, you're looking at R400 for the same
