Hi guys,

Just got my Samsung Galaxy S, my first smart phone :D.

Just a quick question regarding the interface. I've had the phone for about 4 days now, theres some rather odd interface lag iv'e noticed. Now i'm not referring to lag as in slow down, i'm referring to more of a stutter type effect. This particularly happens in the "settings" menu. When scrolling up or down theres a strange stutter like effect. I just wanted to know if this is normal or an issue with the Android 2.1, or even possibly my phone.

Cheers and thanks :)

I reckon its combination of phone and version of Android.

I tried another guys Galaxy S and its not as slick as the desire with gingerbread (or froyo for that matter). Dunno why

I reckon it is more likely the software. Do the firmware update via Kies (I think there is an official update after 2.1) then that should sort it out. 2.1 had its various problems affecting phones slightly differently for some than the normal problems. If it still doesn't work well after that then take it back and ask customer care to take a look.

I wish I knew how, so you didn't experience the same stutter effect? Nothing else is wrong with the phone, just the scrolling which feels a bit abnormal.

Install Kies on PC, plug in phone to PC, look for update option in Kies.

Or take it to a Samsung service centre and get them to do it. Not sure if the cellphone shops can do it.

Thanks! Kies, what an odd name for Samsung software lol.

Says there is no update available? Should I update Kies itself, there is one available for Kies.

Android 2.2 has significantly better performance than Android 2.1 as a result of the introduction of the Dalvik JIT compiler. It may be because you're still on Android 2.1. I would recommend rooting and upgrading to a Froyo or Gingerbread ROM.

I would also suggest trying out a stock Android ROM instead of TouchWiz. Some people disagree with me on this - I really like the utilitarian aesthetic of stock, where as many other people find overlays like Sense or TouchWiz to be warmer and more attractive. But I do think that stock is undeniably faster; a few days ago I played around on a friend's Desire running the factory ROM, and I was genuinely surprised to see how sluggish it felt compared to my identical hardware running Oxygen 2.1.2.

Oh ffs, says this version of the device cannot be updated. Wtf?

I never had similar problems with my Galaxy before or after upgrade to Android 2.2.1 - if there is a hardware problem just make sure you take it back within the (7 days I think) period where they'll still exchange it. Thereafter....well that's another story.

The only issue I have had is that some apps had to be reinstalled after I upgraded Android - the apps were still there but they crashed when trying to run them.

Well the phone seems to be functioning perfectly, just the jittering sort of scrolling as far as I know. Problem is I can't upgrade to find out.

After downloading 3 versions of Kies I still can't update to Froyo. Even though it's stated that Froyo is available in South Africa. Could someone please help me? :(
