Samsung Galaxy S4 Active announced

Looking at those specs, it would seem that the S4 Active is running the same 1.9GHz quad-core as the LTE-version of the S4 that's due out sometime this month.
 
This sounds good but what are the dimensions going to be? (I would prefer an S4 Mini Active)

Those specs weren't there just now, thanks for adding that :) looks like it's going to be the oversized S4 :(

Yep we were a little late on the draw on this one, so I worked to get the article up ASAP, then while the sub edited and published I got the table together.

Now all the important stuff should be in there :)

Sweet! :) I totally cocked up the MTN question – wasn't prepared for it at all (they ask me to submit topics for the show, and I didn't give them that one so it caught me by surprise). In retrospect I should've just told them to refresh my memory, or that I had no clue and gone from there.

I hope the rest of the interview sounded alright :P

Yeah you were nice and lively which is good to listen to. Btw, when he interviewed rpm he too cocked up some BlackBerry thing I forget the details it was last year I think.
 
Ah yes, the first time I saw the S4, I thought, "if only this thing had a worse camera and I could hold it exactly 1m underwater for 30 minutes, it would be perfect."

You can get it in the Experia Z, but the S4 deals are just soo much better. Thing is, will I kick myself if I let the current special slip?

:D Drop it in the toilet? Dirty? Just rinse it under the tap. Once you had a waterproof phone, you can never go back. Also, no need to put it in a glorified condom that ruins the feel/look/size anyway.

Fortunately I've never dropped a phone in the toilet. But if I did, water would be the least of my worries. The point is, why didn't they make the S4 waterproof from the start, why have this slightly different version?

Besides, if they really wanted to improve the S4, they should have done the one thing that everyone complains about, fixed the one weak spot: make it out of metal FFS, not el cheapo "carbon fibre look" plastic.
 
Samsung is winning at business and it's products!
Such growth over the past 2 years, it really sets the bar high for everyone else.
Look at their TV's, smartphones, appliances... all top class!

And the majority of people wont either.

Its great not to worry about scratches!

QFT.

I'm perfectly happy with my scratch free plastic phone thank you very much. A year from now most of the "premium" metal phones will look like it went through a war except if the user puts it in a protective case which defeats the purpose in any way.

Amen to that brother Crowley :-) .

The metalheads are fooled into believing metal is better. It is a perception. Samsung knows that, but are under immense pressure to also release a metal phone to be more like the HTC One.

The best material in my opinion is carbon fibre and I expect that to come to the fore soon. That is my material of choice. No scratches, cracks and dents. Can take a pounding. Ask Mr Kevlar how many hits he can handle.
