Ok. 350MB of updates for software fixes :) Didn't realize such large updates would still be within the current version number. What is ang3?

Latest update released about 4 to 6 weeks back but we are waiting for vodacom to wake up in that one.

Yup, stability updates, which means patches to the Samsung software on the phone.

Test what? There is no need for testing. The following firmwares works out the box Nordic, NZ, UK, Polish. They can just pick one

:D

I don't think Vodacom will be happy if they discover the firmware drops calls, or renders something unusable on the handset & must ask all affected users to bring their phones in for a software downgrade.

How many problems did you have when you flashed other firmware on your S2?

Only one.

I flashed the last Gingerbread ROM (think it was Italian) and the wifi was utterly crap. But then they released a new firmware a month later and that worked ok.

I know what you are saying, but, like I've said, Vodacom cannot take any chances + I recall Jannie mentioned that they have picked up issues with new firmwares before. It might work 100% on Telkom's network, but not 100% on Vodacom's network.

It would be reckless to just release new firmwares without testing it on your network first.

Fair enough.

If they want to, they (VDC) can just ask me what works well - I am here to help

90% loading bloat, 5%test and 5%retard.

Yeah, my S5 came with a lot of Vodacom apps, whereas you get 0 apps with Telkom Mobile's phones.

Telkom Mobile can actually include the TM app, as it's super useful & I really like it.

Long pressing the Home button on my S5 brings up the Google Search / Google Now thing. Pressing the old "Menu" button brings up the running tasks.

It seems that on Android 4.4.2, this is customizable, but my S5 (4.4.2) does not have a "Buttons" menu entry. This is because it is not running stock Android? Any way to customize the home key long press on the S5?

Not that I am aware of.
Far as I can tell all you can do is disable svoice (double press home).

Only if you root - for me:
Press home - goes home
Double press home - takes screenshot
Long press home key - recent apps
Back key - goes back
Long press back key - kills app
Menu key - opens menu
Long press menu key - opens 4-12 favourite app menu
