Hi

Anyone own or seen one of the s tabs. Considering getting one

Currently own the 10.1 2014 edition

Would this be a good upgrade (obviously not size wise)

Considered the 8.4 with my due upgrade this weekend. Watched and read a lot of reviews etc. Then scrapped the 8.4 idea and then considered the 10.4. Rinsed and repeated. And then settled for the z2 tab. 10.1.

My problems with the tab s:
Usb 2 not 3.
Buggy fingerprint scanner.
Bloatware deluxe.
Too new on the market.
Nice feature of emulating the s5 on the tab and able to answer / use s5 remotely. Only downside is i have the 4 not the 5.
Z2 is great so far. And it's waterproof. Usb 3.

The BIG ace up the Tab S's sleeve is that it's the first tablet with a Super Amoled display.

Which is pretty big.

I bought the larger Samsung TAB S 10.5 LTE last week from the Samsung store, Waterfront, in Cape Town. Excellent device, but I am kicking myself for not going for the smaller 8.4 that you are after. I find that my bigger 10.5 is a little too big for my purposes.

The new Samsung TAB S is thin, solid feel, fast, amazing display, excellent camera....it's probably the best tablet out there right now.

Go for it Michelle, I know you will be happy with it. I'm very happy with my new Tab S.

OH.....I was a bit disappointed that Samsung SA did not bring out the 32GB model in the Tab S. I phoned all the dealers around the country, and they all told me they only received stock of the 16 GB model. But, I have put a 64 GB SD card inside, so it's all good

Ok, now I am in two minds if I should get the 10.5 or 8.5 . Dammit.

This is obviously not to write stuff on, but more as a internet browser and to watch Flipboard on?

To be fair, I bought my 10.5 primarily for loading and reading magazines on, and to browse the web. For this purpose, the size is excellent, the text is always big enough that you never need to zoom in on a page - sometimes on my iPad Mini I have to zoom on a page if the text in the magazine is not clear enough.

But for about everything else it can be awkwardly large

None of the Samsung stores that I went to - Gateway (Durban) or Canal walk and waterfront (Cape Town) had a display 8.4 that I could check out. They only had the smaller ones in sealed boxes. So....I don't know...maybe fussy me would have complained that the 8.4 would be a bit small, and I would need to zoom some magazine pages like I sometimes do on my iPad mini....I don't know.

But....this 10.5 is an amazing device, make no mistake. I think it's a personal preference wether you prefer the more manageable 8.4 or the large, but lovely display of the 10.5.

Oh...of course, load all your pictures on the 10.5 if you do get one....pictures show up really well on this display.

Oh (mkII)....I prefer to operate a tablet in portrait mode, and I find the buttons on the 10.5 awkward off to the side when I hold it in portrait mode. In the 8.4, they have put the buttons down below, same as in a Note 3 or S4/5 etc which would have been better for me. I don't like landscape mode, except maybe if looking at pictures.
With the 10.5, holding it in portrait mode, and reading a magazine....I am always bumping the damn buttons on the left side, where my left hand is holding the tablet.

Thank you for this, really appreciate the info!

Best deal for the Tab S 8.4 LTE in SA?
I can see R 6,200 from Orange.

Any word from FNB on which way they'll be going?

Looking to replace my "New iPad" 3rd Generation which was a steal back in 2012 from FNB.
Paid +/- R 1,800 less than retail spread over 24 months after some additional monthly discounts etc.
Not sure their deals are still as aggressive and whether they still offer the monthly rebates if you meet the criteria? Anyone know?

Want to go Tab S 8.4" as I have work phone S3 which would probably upgrade to S5 in the new year.

Update:

Well I have now owned the TAB S 10.5 for about 10 days now, and my perceptions have changed. I think my original feelings about the 10.5 being rather big (although very slim), was due to me having used an Apple iPad mini for the previous year...and so I found the larger 10.5 size of the TAB S to be awkward to handle.

However, now that I have been using in for the past 10 days, I am now REALLY liking it....I seem to like it more the more I use it. What a fantastic device. Reading magazines, books or watching movies on this tablet with its awesome display, is a real treat. I have hooked up my Note 3 to it (using side sync 3.0)- so my Note 3 mirrors on the display of the TAB S, and I am able to do anything on my Note 3, using my TAB S....like a virtual Note 3 on my TAB S

I give the new TAB S 10.5 and TAB S 8.4 a big thumbs up
