I only saw your link now :( I paid R 9500.00 from the Samsung store, and I see it is available for R 6599.00 from wootware. But I see that theirs is the USA WiFi only version. The one I got is the 3G/LTE version.

And I thought I was getting a good deal - it was listed at R 9950.00, and I asked them to chop R500.00 off the price...

That's 11.54% p/a effective interest rate.
On the 8.4 @ R 6,110 once-off from Orange vs. R 299 pm x 24 from FNB is even worse at 15.94%

I guess this answers my question as to whether FNB is still competitively priced :(
One question remains - if I can still qualify for the R50 p/m odd discount I used to get on my previous deal, then the FNB option is a great deal and would come to almost 0% interest over 24 months. Does anyone know?

Breakeven point for 0% interest when benchmarked against Orange deal of R 6,110 would be R 254 p/m.

Bottom line - unless one really doesn't have the cash to buy upfront, maybe these payment plan/credit options make sense for some, but they come at a premium.
 
Okay deciding to go with the 10 5 LtE version can get a sealed one original one for R5000

Are the guys with the 10.5 happy with there devices

Let me give you my situation. I have the S5 but am finding a laptop is just not cutting it for my work so I'm considering a tablet. This one appeals to me. I have been considering the 10.5" but feel that may not be necessary. Will this feel terrible to use after getting used to the S5?

Are you able to make and receive phone calls on this device? Yes, most of you will laugh but I'll seriously consider getting a bluetooth headset so I only need to carry the one device around with me.
 
If it's for work, why not rather get an Asus Transformer running Windows 8?

Can I get that on contract for R229 per month anywhere? :)

Most of my work would be able to be done on Android, emails and online quoting, sadly there are a few programs that need Windows but I have a desktop I could hop onto for those. Not ideal but being price conscious.


On that note, to the cellular ISPs do any Windows devices?

Yup, bought the Tab S 10.5 LTE version in September, and two weeks ago bought the smaller 8.4 LTE Tab S. They are both great tablets. I am so over my Apple iPad tablets after using these. Only bugbear is that they only come out with 16GB of memory - yes, they do have an external SD slot, but it's functionality is severely limited with Android KitKat. Oddly enough, I find that my Note 3 with the same version of Android seem to not be as fussy as my two Tab S tablets regarding what can be saved to the SD card.
Looking forward to Lollipop - it seems they may have restored a lot of the functionality of the SD card in this version.

I know many laugh at the idea but can you confirm that the Tab S 8.4 can be used to make and receive calls?

I will use it for meetings and like the idea of carrying one device only. With a blue tooth headset obviously...

Yes you can - but obviously only if you buy the 3G/LTE version....it won't happen on the wifi version. The TAB S is basically like a very large Samsung Galaxy S5 phone, so yes, the 3G/LTE version of the TAB S will do anything that it's smaller brother, the S5 phone version will do.

I'm of the understanding that the SA ones are LTE, but I'll double check. Thanks.

Still wondering whether I'll get more work use out of it than the S5. I'm thinking presentations to clients. I'm thinking using a stylus to sign documents on the screen (need to check feasibility).

Then "social" things. Watching movies, sport etc.

Most other things I can do in the S5. Damn, do I do it...
