Samsung Galaxy Y

Reading the review, its seems like a nice little phone.
Depends on what price you can get it for locally.

Screen is a bit small, but that's what you get for the price you pay.
No Flash support is rather dismal from Samsung on this one.
2MP pixel camera? Though I've never thought of a mobile phone as a replacement for a camera, 2MP in 2012 is just effing shameful!

Have a look at GSMArena's review or if you wanna "Quick Read" check out their conclusion and list of contenders for this handset: http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_s5360_galaxy_y-review-680p7.php

Only real issue I have with the Galaxy Range overall is TouchWiz.
Its looking rather dated in today's world.
But rooting and flashing can sort that out, if you're into that kind of thing.

I would say it's a bit too small . The smallest I would say is ok to settle for is the galaxy Gio. But samsung should be launching the dual sim Galaxy Y Pro(it has both a physical qwerty keyboard and touch screen) Duos and the the Galaxy Y Duos.

In Feb they said 4-6 weeks it's already available in India, so should not be too far off locally.

Is this phone worth having?

I'm interested in it.

It's a great for phone for the price; obviously the specs aren't the best, but it is much more usable than some of the reviews indicated (the screens major problem is direct sunlight, but given that I've turned the brightness down, not the most accurate statement).

The other problem is the keyboard, but download an ICS keyboard and it's not bad.

My biggest gripe is that there no real custom ROMs available, nor kernels. The after market development for the phone is shocking.

All in all, for the price, it's good. Maybe even very good (especially compared to the lower end "Vodafone" phones available.

I think what people forget is the Galaxy Y is the low end, look at its price and specs vs that of the competition?
Flash Support simply cant happen on a device this cheap, but who needs flash on such a budget and screen size?you can still watch YouTube videos easily!
As with the camera, 2mp o the lowest in the Galaxy range is expected, compare it to the BB8520? Having tried both, the Y is faster, has access to much more apps, and has 3G. The Bb has bbm and bis, but what's the point of Bis when its so slow on edge.

When it comes to Modding, lets be reasonable, the guys who do the Modding arent buying this type of phone, hence I don't expect many roms and kernals for it.
But as a entry level smartphone, which is priced similar to some nokia feature phones, I think the Y does all decent job!

Thinking of getting the y fur my kids. Can it at least play angry birds?

I have one as a spare or should I say my out of hours phone!

It's aimed at the younger user (hence the Galaxy Y) and they only want to post the odd picture on Facebook etc. So I'd assume that 2 mega pixel is more than ample for that! I should of course be using a 'Galaxy O' for the older user but they don't do one YET! :)

For a touch screen it is surprisingly easy to use! However, I do find turning it sideways when using Whatsapp etc., is best with my oversized pinkies!

On data, it's fast with up to 7.6 mbps on downloads but sadly only HSDPA and thus just 364K upload...

On the plus side is the Wi-Fi hot spot feature which allows you to set the device up as a Wi-Fi modem.

It runs Twitter, Facebook and Whatsapp flawlessly plus I'm sure a lot of applications that I would not use.

In short, a small but very respectable handset!
