Samsung, HTC Android tablet specials from MTN

The Huawei S7 Slim seems to be a nice cheap competitor but I hope the memory is upgradable.
Htc Flyer is still the best so far, but I got my hopes on the Moto-Xoom being on top.
Galaxy still a bit pricey for it's age.
(150mb a month WTF? talk about OOB schemes)
 
Not feeling the 24 month contracts. Consumers should be given the option of a 12 month contract, or allowed to structure their contract according to their, voice, data, term requirements.

Agreed, 150MB / 30 days in the month = 5MB per day! Ridiculous. You can open the Facebook, Gmail and MyBB pages and then you are out of data. MTN could have been really clever and done a 2GB/m (Maybe 2GB after hours on top like VC) + device for R200/R250 pm, now that would have been great. Oh and being able to share your data over multiple sims.

I've got the Vodascum booklet. The Galaxy 10.1 is R399 per month with 500MB included data pm. The Galaxy 7" P1000 is R349 per month with 500MB included data pm. Cr@p pricing from them as usual. Let's see what they do next month.

Cellucity has stock of the Galaxy 10.1. Vodacom has actually pulled the the Galaxy from their new booklet, probably because of the so-called software and stock problems.

Be aware that the Galaxy Tab 10.1 model that we are getting is the 10.1v and not the newer 10.1 being released later this year. The 10.1v has no SD card slot (so you cannot upgrade the memory), there are problems with the Tegra 2 running Full HD movies smoothly and apparently there is also a problem with light bleeding from the edges of the screen. This problem is apparently because Samsung is also using LG screen in some of the Galaxy Tabs along with their own, and the light bleeding problem has cropped up all over on the internet.

All of these deals are still complete rip-off, like most of our cellular deals
 
So when I asked my sales person to order the R229 Galaxy TAB I was told the deal hadn't yet been loaded onto the system. How does MTN advertise a deal, and then can't sell it to you? But on the 150MB offer, you CAN use wireless when you are at home (if you have ADSL). I would use the 3G for when 'on the road'. On my Blackberry I have used about 600 MB in 12 months - that's only 50 MB per month average. It's hard to gauge how much you REALLY need.

Can't compare. BB connects to the internet via BIS, data is compressed and optimised on the BIS servers. As a result you use far less on a BB. Tablets display websites the way they were designed to be, like your browser on your computer. So you will use far more data... Further, you obviously have never used google maps and similar things extensively. 150mb is not a lot

But, my question is. How do you carry around a 7 inch (18cm) cellular/mobile PC around?

I have been keeping my cell in my pocket and size made my transition from ordinary cell to smartphone quite easy (slightly larger - my smartphone that is but still fits snuggly in my front pocket.)

How do you carry a tab around? Do you need to have a special carry case like people had when cells began i.e. a belt with a pouch.

I've actually tried it - the TAB fits into a standard trouser pocket! It's still too bulky tho to be carried about daily as a phone.
I can however recommend the Dell Streak as a worthy solution if you want a device that is both tablet & phone combined in a practical form-factor. I've used it daily as my primary phone for about 6-months, and find it to be comfortably sized to fit into my pocket while performing it's function well as a 5-inch android tablet as well (mainly for internet on the go of course). Even it's specs are quite decent and it's also available on contract with VC, not sure about MTN.
No lugging around 2 devices for me thanks.
 
So, where are all these Android 3 (Honeycomb) Tablets? I don't want an oversised phone. I want a proper Tablet!!
