Same debate with Android 2.1 copying iOS. Also who established the 1st smartphone in the current league (2007 vs. 2008).

Do note where Hugo Barra is today...
 
Shamepies. Competition is supposed to keep you honest but these big companies idea of competition is to get the lawyers involved.

I think Windows Mobile was there long before apple or android mobile devices even existed. Maybe they both stole ideas from Microsoft, HP, Imate? Microsoft had tablets in the early 2000's also. And if you know back to the future 2, there was a Imate K-jam in the futuristic stores windows LOL. I was surprised, but I did see something like that there when i paused.

This battle in the article is currently between Apple and Samsung.

MS, Apple and their members in the Rockstar group is already challenging Google on other patents.

All these battles are part in one huge war, where alliances are easily broken.

Too much variables here with a lack in technology agreements and/or partnerships.

I'm very sure that when you go back in time you can pick-up various concepts detailing (not necessarily in-depth as with patents) the technology we have today.

Wasn't really that smart back then, as it lacked a decent connection, MMS, copy/paste a ton of other features that make it smart. It was closer to a cellphone with touch screen than it was to smart
 
I wonder how this would work out if all of this was reversed? Google suing Apple, Google and MS working together to break iOS's hold on the market....

It all comes down to apple not being able to handle the fact that their devices aren't the cream of the crop any more. it's just pure a device now that looks the same from V1 up till now, the same functions more or less with improvements over the years, the same old boring interface that never really change to much etc... I mean you can't even add a weather widget on it LOL. Yes if you use the drop down function then you see the weather and it looks pretty cool I might add.

Price also tried to get Schiller to admit that Apple followed Samsung’s lead in introducing smaller tablets by offering its iPad mini. But Schiller said the introduction of the mini “had nothing to do with competition.”

“We were simply trying to make our product better,” Schiller added.

If they were looking at the competition to that extent they'd have released a 5" iPhone by now. It's not like they're just oblivious of what anybody else does but it's not really part of their DNA to bring out reactive products. Apple's complete apathy to whatever the rest of the world is doing is what a lot of people dislike about them the most.

In the case of the smaller iPad, to my eyes it looked like a rather reactionary product, especially against the background of Jobs' comments with regards to smaller tablets.

What about it seems reactionary? Only the fact that others planted the flag before they did. Jobs went on record to say that tablets were categorically doomed (our research shows that people need a keyboard), then proceeded to release the iPad. Products go through evolutions - the iPod has changed drastically over the years.

It was a different era of highly unfriendly and very expensive devices accessible to the top tiers in business or very rich only.

Apple and later Samsung really brought Smartphones to the masses.


And no a Blackberry isn't a Smartphone.
