Hi,

So I driving along today with my Galaxy S3 in my car mount when suddenly a white flame, sparks and a bang came out of the phone.

I pulled in to look at my phone, the phone burned from the inside out. Burned through the plastic and melted my case to my phone. The phone kept working but without any signal.

I brought it to the carphone warehouse and they told me that they couldnt replace it for me that they had to send it off to be checked out first. No even replacement phone, left with nothing.

The phone was destroyed and it slightly burned a piece of plastic on the inside of my car.

And they are refusing to give me a replacement they had to send it off. Probably nothing I can do, but Im really annoyed. That could have burned the side of my face or through my pocket and my leg, or set fire to my bed. Its very dangerous.

Update:
After receiving no help from the Carphone Warehouse. Samsung contacted me, the head of customer services came out to see me and gave me a replacement phone. Even said he would send me out some free stuff.

There is no confirmation that it was a fault with the phone. It may actually have been caused by a combination of my car mount and my cars heating system.

Just delighted to have my Galaxy back

LOL this is getting a bit silly... One phone burns out because of a car charger and there's a zillion articles/threads all over the internet.

Car kits/chargers are the work of the devil, the real news should be when a phone doesn't get messed up by one.

Imagine if this was a Nokia phone or another struggling manufacturer's - "Oh that just proves the company's lack of competence".

But, no. Its a Samsung. So we are perfectly fine with it.

Yes, it is the charger's fault. Especially because the complainant said so after receiving a free replacement SIII and confirmation that he would receive further free stuff.

Morale of the story: When they are up they are up (and they are beyond reproach) and when they are down we send them even further down.

I don't think that's likely at all - if it comes out that the SGS3 is fatally flawed (You can imagine the party at Apple if that happens :D), people will slaughter it online just like any other sub-par manufactured item.

That's hardly an explosion, looks more like a short circuit...

Of course it's the charger's fault... Do you know how many phones/batteries are destroyed by those things every day?

It's actually the opposite of what you said, people are taking pleasure because of something bad happening to the big guy. Schadenfreude. Just like when they made such a colossal stink about the iphone losing signal if you held it in a really awkward way that no-one would ever do in real-world usage. (And believe me the Applephones have enough legitimate stuff to complain about.)

Presenting him with a new phone is in no way an admission of a fault, it's a show of good will to the guy because the place where he bought it are a bunch of douches who wouldn't even give him a replacement phone.

Call me again when 7 out of 10 Galaxy S3's burst into flames. Hell, call me when 50 across the entire world do it, out of the millions sold.

I'm reading the thread and the OP says that the phone wasn't on charge, so not sure how this could be the charger's fault. It was in a cradle mount but not plugged in and nothing near the explosion point. Also, it exploded/melted on the antenna, not the charging point...

The 'charger' issue came after the Samsung rep had spoken to the complainant. It was an update to the story.

Pure PR.

Note, the complainant actually says "t may actually have been caused by a combination of my car mount and my cars heating system". Yep, that normally happens. The car mount and the heating system usually get together to make phones explode.

It looks pretty clear that there was no car charger involved. Read the story again. This time, without the car charger in your head.

Apple's been making exploding phones since 2010, I hope they sue Samsung for this blatant copying.

Read my post again I said "If" because some people from other sites/articles are saying it was plugged in.

No where did I claim to know the facts yet.

Edit:just found the original post directly from the dude whose phone misbehaved and indeed he says it was not charging.
