Samsung Keyless locks?

Has anyone experience with these? Samsung EZON? I'm considering installing one for my front door. With 12 digit passwords and RFID or smart card entry, it helps when friends/relatives need to enter parts of your house.

I have a similar lock on my front door, an older manual one though, bought and installed about a decade back.

Was a great idea at the time but I think we have used it about three times in the past decade. Reason being that we always enter the house via the garages and had a security gate installed at the front so made the whole 'key-less entry' thing pretty useless so guess it depends on your setup.

Thanks. Yes I guess it does. What is nice is that you can give a friend/relative a card or even better a 6-12 digit combination and do it even when you're not at home, like over the telephone. And the best is that you don't have to worry about them losing a key or you losing a key.

great idea... until someone with a crowbar (or a hammer) comes along deliberately breaks your expensive samsung lock, then you're stuck and unable to enter your own house... :erm:

Just keep in mind your front door design - breaking a small window and reaching around to press the "exit" button on the inside is the easiest thing in the world. :)

I would also check if insurance accepts these before using it on a front door.

However, I love mine and use it on an internal door. Is rock solid. Every single front door in Korea has one installed, so they cannot be flakey. The outside keypad is pretty tough and vandleproof, but don't think it will last through an assault with a crowbar.

Some lock models can interface with your alarm system though. So if someone does try to break it, they'll have armed response chasing them down very quickly...

That's a possibility. But that's mitigated by the risk of losing/forgeting one's keys and being just as locked out. You then call in the locksmith. Hopefully insurance will cover the costs.

( I have an alternative entry into the house too. )

Not in my case. No small windows anywhere close. But this also occurs with single barrel dead bolts. I have a Kwikset on an inner door and one could knock out a panel and turn the knob. Some of these locks "sense" whether a person is really behind them or just reaching his arm around. Don't know how reliable that is, expecially as there is a mechanical knob there too.

Good point. There would be other means of security too, or access would only be to a part of the house.

In my case it would be a front door, but there is a barrier before it, the people in the know would be able to open, so less exposure to curious people and elements.

Some also allow remote entry via interface with an intercom device. Ta.

How about replacement RFID keys, etc? Where / how much? I want one with biometrics.

Mifare 13.56MHz RF cards. Apparently credit cards with smart chips also work. (ones which allow proximity contact less sales...)

http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trk...fare+card&_nkw=mifare+card&_sacat=0&_from=R40

They sell as cheap as R50 for 5 incl shipping.
The Samsung ones cost substantially more. RF tags seem pretty cheap though.

SHS-5230 has fingerprint security, pass code or RF card/tag. You can enable two options at the same time, eg fingerprint and code. But with 12 digit codes, it would take forever to brute force entry. Easier would be just to take the door off the hinges.

And let's face it, one can pick a lock, especially R100 cheap type locks builders use. Lots of YT videos of guys bumping or picking locks.

How much is that lock?
I'm also considering one with quick open from the inside - button type. That way you can live with your doors / gates locked and not have to keep reaching for keys to go out.

Not cheap. Ebay has the 5230 selling for R3K including shipping. Add VAT if customs catches you. The cheaper Samsung EZONs without fingerprint security sell for R1.3K incl shipping or so.

They also auto lock which is nice.
