Samsung MU7000 backlight bleed

I bought a Samsung MU7000 55" through Loot and it was delivered on Friday. It's a really awesome tv except for one thing. There's so much backlight bleed that I've contacted Loot's return department.

How much backlight bleed is acceptable?

I'm attaching some photos to show how bad it is. Please let me know if it's normal.

Wow definitely return.
Id say a bit of bleeding is only acceptable on a very dark scene, but to see it on a colorful scene is unacceptable.
I have a KU7000 and my back-light bleed is barely noticeable.
 
Which Firmware are you running ?

On 1180.5 Light bleed was a major issue but the new firmware 1201.6 has fixed these issues.
 
I have a KS8000 - 1150 was perfect , when upgraded to 1169 and 1180.5 I had a similar issue now running 1201.6 so much better.

I updated to the latest version when I first switched it on. Will go check for updates again this evening, thanks.

Update 1201.6 for some reason will not pull through LAN you have to do a download and USB upgrade - had to do this for 1180.5 as well.
 
Definitely way too much. If you could barely notice it, they'd have a case not to return it, but this is highly over the limit for "barely noticeable". Not that I assume they'd refuse it.

Will firmware updates really fix an issue like this? Isn't this a physical problem, instead of a software issue?
 
A Samsung representative will come have a look at the tv today. Hopefully we won't have much trouble in exchanging it. Will let everyone know.

In case anyone ever has a problem like this in the future. I contacted Loot's return department and they gave me the number for Samsung's customer care service after which they said they will send someone to inspect the tv.

Will see how it goes from there.
 
I also bought a 24" monitor for my PC, the bleed is noticeable on dark scenes.

Im wondering if this will be my last samsung monitor, my previous one had zero bleed and that was a CCFL and not my current LED.


That is waaaaaay too much, return it.
 
What happened in the end?

I had this with a panel of my H7000.

My KU7000 - although technically an inferior TV - is pretty much perfect when it comes to bleed.
 
It was replaced with a new one. The new one looks much better than the old one but there's still some bleeding especially in the bottom left corner. The tv is outstanding except for that.

It's disappointing really. I don't think I'll buy a Samsung tv again. My previous 40" Samsung tv started getting panel problems a month after the warranty ended and they wanted to charge me more to fix it than what I paid for the tv originally.

So yes, no more Samsung for me.
 
Yup just stop buying Samsung and avoid the disappointment.

If it’s not questionable quality like this to begin with then it just barely lasts out do warranty.

Definitely don’t buy one without an extended warranty.
 
Thank you so much for posting this. I was just about to pull the trigger on a 55MU7000 too. Guess I will have to keep looking.

What else can you guys recommend in this price range? Hisense 55M7000UWG looks good, but I heard the Hisense smart interface sucks compared to Samsung...

We seem to have very limited options in this country.

You should have fought harder.

My TV was about 6 months out warranty and had a large lighter area that I could see. No one else could really see it as it needed certain scenes, but it annoyed me.

A new panel was R17,000 - but Samsung made a plan to give me a new 60" KU7000 at R8.5k + trade in my old screen.

I'll take a photo of the KU7000 screen - but I really do find it a great set.
 
Wow, wish i had seen this post before, I have a Q7C, Samsungs supposedly amazing tv's. I bought mines at Sounds Great Clearwater, and in store it looks great, but in the dark which is something they never mention, is where you see all the issues, I posted my issue here: https://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showth...g-Q7C-backlight-bleed?p=20884302#post20884302

Really dissapointed, might as well have bought a cheap lcd imo.
 
Amazing how far it goes back - I remember when you used to check a letter on the screen to determine which factory it came from - and to make sure you only got a screen from a specific factory.

It sucks man. I'm never buying a Samsung tv again.
