Hi there, I have been doing some searching and have not yet been able to find a safe way to flash a cooked rom to my omnia. My previous phone (HTC TyTn II) was a breeze to flash because of the overwhelming support offered over at XDA developers. I find that this is not the case with the Omnia as yet.

My first concern is that because we have a specific rom for South Africa, flashing a different rom might cause the phone to have reduced functionality in terms of say the Garmin Software that comes free with the phone.

If anyone else has flashed a rom on the omnia or has prior experience with the HTC roms and would like to share some advice please feel free to do so

Kind regards
Linden

Flashed from ZA ROM to Singapore official, and then various cooked ROMs from Modaco. All fine and my Garmin still works. Garmin will generate 2 activation files that's hardware dependent (your Micro SD card), once activated, as long as you don't copy over to a new card, you don't have to re-activate even after you flashed a new ROM.

If you don't flash it, then you are really loosing out on the extra functionalities.

Thanks for the reply Cyberarmy. What method did you use to flash? Did you use Grand Prix?

Also, can you recommend any rom in particular? I'm looking for something light/naked so that I can build it up with my own apps without iy being bulky.

The guys at Modaco had packaged the ROM into Samsung's update utility already, so you just need to download one file, follow the instruction to connect and click click, that's it (oh yes, don't forget to install the Samsung USB drivers first).

I had good experience with the ROM provided by Taril on Modaco, optimised original ROM with no extra, but then he stop after the last which is DXIA5. If you want something clean I would suggest you have a look at his thread.
