Samsung Omnia HD - i8910

They selling unlocked, new I8910 HD phones on ebay for about 5K, postal inc. Does unlocked mean it will work in SA and what is the downside by buying said phone from ebay, apart from the risk that our postal workers may steal it

No warranties.. and if it works locally that's a decent deal compared to the R8000 local prices.
 
I agree there is no warranty for the phone from ebay and i would not trust them it will probably be used or be a china version.
 
I think SA sell cellphones the more expensive than any other country i know of. In india its only for about 28000rs which is about R4000.
 
Hey remus, u told me that the phone will be out on the 14th of February. What happened?
 
delays delays more delays...

"We have been experiencing problems with our system in order for the stores to place the orders for this handset on your behalf but this has been resolved. Its currently stock take in the warehouse so they can only invoice the stock on Monday"

"I will check for you tomorrow as we are getting some stock on the system – so please mail me tomorrow"

These are the last 2 correspondences from JHB yesterday. Both chaps promised they would deliver a unit a week ago. I have them on record stating they will ship one to my local MTN store within 24hrs and nothing happened
 
Hey momo i received 2 emails from JHB claiming they have stock. I have asked that both handsets be sent to the Musgrave branch. If you want i can tell them to reserve 1 for you when it lands.

at last....at last......I finally have my omnia HD i8910!!:D

decided to go to canal walk today in an OFF chance that they have some in stock. Well the guys knew nothing about midrand sending phones to his branch but assured me he had in stock!! He did!!..so I promptly took 1!!

Geesus it awesome!! the touch screen works even through the plastic cover:D

anyway I fiddled with it till the battery went flat:( so I have to wait till tomorrow to get the full experience:p

still have to set up email etc.

You probably have the second firmware, there is a 3rd firmware only available for hong kong and russia and it provides a 3d task manager and other small updates.

Hi Momo, I've seen this too. Let's hope we get it soon because there is a bug on the internet explorer that when you press "stop" it goes right out of IE instead of just stopping the loading of the page. I know it has been fixed on the 3rd firmware...

Congrats!

Remember to put the phone off while you charge it for at least the 1st 3 charges, and let it charge for at least 8 hours each time.. really helps with the battery.
 
Congrats spiff.. What an awesome phone so far. One huge problem though. I had 2 major lockups so far which needed me pulling out the battery. After the second time the phone kept 'stalling' on the startup screen.. Eventually it gave me a an error "Phone Start Up Failed Contact Retailer". It did finally switch on and has been working perfect since.
