Samsung Plasma Black Dead Line

Hey guys.

I bought my Samsung Plasma last year from Game. 1 Year and 10 days ago to be exact.

Today while playing Xbox this thick black line appears.

Anybody know if this can be fixed or what caused this? Is there Samsung repair place in Cape Town or how long is the Samsung warranty for?

Any info is much appreciated.
 
What happens when you use another input? Broadcast TV, component video or VGA?

Is that PS51D550 or PS51D450?

IIRC xrapidx managed to sort something out with a contact at Samsung after his LCD broke just a few days out of warranty.

I don't think you'll have much joy with Game. But you may as well ask them for Samsung repair contacts in the mean time who can quote on repair.
 
Call Samsung's shop in Century City and ask them. I have an idea the guarantee is 3 years, but am not sure

1 year on all Samsung TVs purchased before +-May 2012. 2 years thereafter.

Other guarantee would be a store-bought upgrade to 3 years, handled by the store. Usually around R600.
 
It's the PS51D451

So no choice but to send it in for repairs? Or any other goods news for that matter?

Spoke to the Samsung store in Canal Walk. They say Liptronics are the repair people for Samsung in Cape Town.

Huh Missed your 1year warranty by 2 weeks :( WTF Now that's what I call bad luck. I hope you come right. Tell them you went away and when you got back home your tv was acting up. Do you have any household insurance? With all the rain going around, was there no electrical storms near you?
 
Call Game and speak to them, you never know. I've always found them pretty helpful.
 
Liptronics phoned today. They can fix it for R1500.
Could have been worse.

I bought the same model also about a year ago and took out a 3 year extended warranty with Game. As murphy's law would have it, had I not not taken out the warranty, then there would have been a good chance that something would have gone wrong just after the 1 year warranty period has expired. So I am waiting with anticipation for the end of the 3 year warranty. :)

Holy crap

Fix it yourself,it's quite easy.

1 Open it up and check the inverter board.That's a long,thin board usually on top or on the left side.First check for a loose ribbon cable,usually in line with your black line.
2 If you can't find a loose ribbon cable,check for dry joints on the inverter board...again in line with your black line.Resolder and done.

I say this again,the no1 cause of most problems on plasma/led/lcd is heat.As heat builds up,metal expands.This cause dry joints and popped capacitors.The caps are rated 85 to 105 degrees,but the longer you have your tv on,the hotter it gets inside.Replacement caps cost R2-R20 and if your not handy with a solder gun,the most it'll cost you is probably a beer for a pal.

Trust me,i own 14 flat panel tv's (2 at home and 12 at a nightclub) and over the past 8 years i have had my fair share of problems.Everytime it all comes down to dry joints and/or bad caps,never a complete board.I don't even call my resident techie anymore.

They said they have to order something from Samsung as its a part thats faulty.

Tbh I dont really care. I just want it fixed.
