Samsung "Protect Battery" setting usefull?

That is horrible, it would have been better to just sell it for spares and buy a 2hnd one, they sell for well less than R4500 these days.

Nah. I could not buy anything half as decent as the P30 Pro for R4500. Most second hand ones are more than that. And a second hand one would need a new battery anyway. The battery life is great now and it looks as good as new. I don't regret getting it fixed.

Mine is a 256GB dual sim BTW.

My wife is using it and it still takes amazing photos, most of the time the photos that she takes of the kids are better than the ones I take with my S22 Ultra.

They are very good phones, did the R4500 include a new battery?
If so that’s not too bad of a price.

I am 18months into my S21 Ultra ownership. I charge it overnight with a 'slow' charger. Haven't experienced reduced battery life yet. Is there 80% charged the equivalent of nitrogen in tyres?

My ultimate "nope from me" is needing a battery replaced, and finding it costing close to the current mid-midrange (which performs nearly equivalent to the 18+ month flagship needing battery replacement).

Annoyed right now because my 8 year old Note 4 needs a new battery (along with other issues) or me getting a new contract. Flagships these days won't give the kind of useful life I have had with this Note 4, and the midrange (and S22/S22+) are all inferior FHD+.

I would not mind getting a second hand Note 10 but the battery would be 3+ years old and still expensive to replace with an original or compatible.

So taking me into 2022 tech I would have no SD card, no IR Blaster, no headphone jack, no user replaceable battery. I would not mind taking a contract on the Ultra but have an expectation of 5 year life, and the battery needing replacement within that timeframe has me hesitant, I could get 3 midrangers for that price in the 5 years.

Get an iPhone, the cheap battery replacements from Apple was part of why I recently moved from Android and the ecosystem is incredible.

What specifically are you finding incredible about the ecosystem?

It just works so well and so seamlessly, even voice dictation is noticeably better which I wasn’t expecting . And the customisation potential with their shortcuts system is amazing. It’s hard to believe that 10Yrs ago I left iPhones because it was such a closed system and now from that perspective it’s pulling ahead of Android in many regards. I also find Siri so much more helpful than Google assistant which I found really clunky.

And everything is so well thought out and works as good as their current flagship phones even if you are on a skadonk from 4 or 5yrs ago. I wish I could go Mac computers as well, that would be epic.

But I’ve been considering changing for the last year or so, but they are so pricey even 2hnd and I don’t like having too much liability in my pocket. Then I found out about the Se phones, the 2020 Se has the same camera and cpu as an iPhone 11 and they can be had for around R3500 2hnd. I also like that they are small, which may not suit everyone but I don’t like consuming media on my phone, it’s a tool not a toy.

Before I got my S22 Ultra, I had a Note 10 Plus for 3 years.

Charging the phone to 100% and let it go down to about 5%.

Occasionally let it drain completely on purpose.
On the day I sold it, it was still giving me excellent battery life.

That was the longest ever that I had a phone.

I remember you from the Nokia N95 days I think? Always the dude with the latest phone haha.

I've been using this 85% feature for a while with no issues. Generally, my phone lasts a day with it on and great if it further protects the battery.

It just works so well ...
I had the original SE a couple years back as a spare and I got the 7 as a spare a year or so ago. Bro broke his phone so hes had the 7 most of the time. He just bought a 11 64gb last week 2nd hand for 7k so I have the 7 again.

But like when I had the original SE, Whatsapp not being able to run on 2 phones is holding me back from giving it a proper try.

Where do you see Android as more closed than Iphone now?

The ecosystem does have its advantages considering that Android flagships are the same price as iPhones but iPhones generally hold value longer and are supported longer.

I have not been exposed to MacOS enough so I would probably be lost but I have seen enough Youtube videos to see the appeal of the integration.

Maybe open vs closed was the wrong analogy but previously if you wanted to dig deep doing interesting things with your phone unless you Jailbroke your iPhone Android was the clear winner by a wide margin, that's not the case anylonger.

Apple shortcuts is amazing and everything is just put together with so much thought, the way things interact with you in the interface, I feel like a more sane human using iOS. They also have a decent iCloud app for Windows that was recently released and it works great, better than Google drive. I often need to save an image from PC to phone and I'd use Drive and the whole process was very clunky and laborious. I was expecting to jump through hoops to do anything similar with iOs but it was totally hassle free. With the iCloud app on the pc I can save directly to my iCloud downloads folder and I open my phone and the file is there near instantly. That's the difference with iOS vs Android - iOS everything is baked in and works seamlessly, on Android its all 3rd party apps. To get my image on Drive on Android I'd open Drive on the phone, wait for it to load up then try browse to the folder I saved to, wait for it to load, then save the files to my phone storage then open the file browser, navigate to the save folder and then finally I can open the image. On iOS I open the files app, click on downloads and the files are already there, click on the image and it opens. I'm sure you can achieve the same thing on Android but it requires many more hoops to jump through.

Also a huge thing is iCloud full phone backups, saves everything including log-in states for apps and other services, you literally can throw your phone in a river, pick up another one, restore from backup and you carry on like you were zero setup needed, Android is better these days in that regard but no where even remotely close to Apple yet.

That whatsapp thing was also bugging me, fortunately from just recently you can now transfer your whatsapp chats and media between Android and iOs:

yeah that does sound good. yeah everyone who goes full iPhone&Mac talks about the seamlessness. hopefully others can catch up.
Full back up sounds awesome. I must have not had it on or updated when I gave the phone to my bro. when I reset the 7 and set it up again it didnt bring back much/any of my old stuff.

yeah I have been keeping a close eye. however I just wanna test out iOS as the 7 is not on par with my Android. So i wanna be able to run whatsapp on both devices, and if iOS is to my liking then I would consider shelling out the $$$$ for a newer iPhone.

Also i think Apple and Whatsapp worked together on the app:

Don't want a SE for free. The battery life is a joke.

I can’t lie it is not the greatest but that’s the trade off for having such a dinky little phone, tiny little battery but it’s doable. I’m hoping it convinces me to waste less time on my phone, just use it for the essentials.

I see the SE 2022 is better in that regard. Hopefully it drops in price.

You specifically have to select restore from ICloud after erasing the device. The 7 is pretty old, the nice thing with the newer SE is they have pretty potent specs, mine runs very fast, Safari is ridiculously quick.

Even without using a MacBook with the iCloud app on Win 11 It’s seamless, way better than I had with Android, I can view Photos, files, web history and passwords and there’s a few others, very surprised how deeply integrated Apple made it, typically they couldn’t give a rats ass about Windows users, they’ve come a long way.

They aren’t cheap new, even the 2020 Se was still R6999 on the iStore BF sale. Thats one thing that is indisputable, when it comes to price gouging Apple is peerless, bastards.
