Maybe open vs closed was the wrong analogy but previously if you wanted to dig deep doing interesting things with your phone unless you Jailbroke your iPhone Android was the clear winner by a wide margin, that's not the case anylonger.
Apple shortcuts is amazing and everything is just put together with so much thought, the way things interact with you in the interface, I feel like a more sane human using iOS. They also have a decent iCloud app for Windows that was recently released and it works great, better than Google drive. I often need to save an image from PC to phone and I'd use Drive and the whole process was very clunky and laborious. I was expecting to jump through hoops to do anything similar with iOs but it was totally hassle free. With the iCloud app on the pc I can save directly to my iCloud downloads folder and I open my phone and the file is there near instantly. That's the difference with iOS vs Android - iOS everything is baked in and works seamlessly, on Android its all 3rd party apps. To get my image on Drive on Android I'd open Drive on the phone, wait for it to load up then try browse to the folder I saved to, wait for it to load, then save the files to my phone storage then open the file browser, navigate to the save folder and then finally I can open the image. On iOS I open the files app, click on downloads and the files are already there, click on the image and it opens. I'm sure you can achieve the same thing on Android but it requires many more hoops to jump through.
Also a huge thing is iCloud full phone backups, saves everything including log-in states for apps and other services, you literally can throw your phone in a river, pick up another one, restore from backup and you carry on like you were zero setup needed, Android is better these days in that regard but no where even remotely close to Apple yet.
