The advertisers who's adds are displayed, doesn't mater if they make Samsung and LG look good or not, they got you to view the article which yields them advertising revenue.

I haven't compared the 2019 models either - but when I compared the 2017 QLED (Q7F), there wasn't a massive eye watering difference. Like I said, my expectation was exactly as you described based on the comments I'd seen .... and I really expected angels to dance on my retinas. I thought I'd never be able to view a normal TV again once I'd seen OLED magic ... but none of that was true.

I was then given a myriad of excuses as to why there was no 'magic' ... wrong content ... lights ... incorrect settings ... incorrect temperature lights ... reflections. In general though, didn't see the below at all.



Yes - the black is fantastic on the OLED (0cd/m2) ... but the QLED was just 0.044cd/m2. QLED also has better colour volume, better colour gamut, better peak brightness and just delivered the more vivid and punchier image on screen. And image retention on OLED is a real worry, as I do tend to game.

I also found it really depended on the scene / content - if you're watching Dark Knight in a dark theater environment, I tend to agree with you on fairly large (relative) difference. But average content, in an average lounge with average people watching - it's not really as large as people think.

Looking back at the pricing, the Q7F was priced the same as the OLD back then (R40,000+) - but on this particular day, they were running the set @ R29,950. As much as wanted to tell people I had shiny new OLED, I could not justify the difference (and I'm one of those that can justify most gadgets

And regarding the OneConnect box - that was another one of my reasons for choosing the QLED I think's fantastic to wall mount and never need to go around back!

Yeah, you make very good points. I think if you have to justify why you picked one over the other, you are convincing yourself. In all honesty, there is a "sexiness" to OLED for me as well. Most people already look at us weird for being willing to spend more than R8k on a TV, so the chances of them understanding any justifications is zero.

For me personally there were 3 reasons for choosing it, bearing in mind I find the difference is marginal :

The discount made it R10,000+ cheaper than the OLED
I really wanted One Connect, as I didn't want to mess around the back of a wall mounted TV
I was concerned about the image retention in PS4 games

But I feel I lost out on :

Dolby Vision
Dolby Atmos

I feel the same, if the price is the same, it is a tough choice.

From all the research and also anecdotal reports, Plasma is worse at Image retention than OLED. I used to play a lot of XBOX One on my Plasma and I do not have any image retention. Even with driving games or shooters. So I think as long as you have protection systems active, shouldn't be an issue. But taking a gamble on a R10k plasma is not the same as R40k OLED
You also get used to the temporary image retention when grabbing a drink while Netflix / Youtube / plex menu is static.

The One Connect is excellent. It is most definitely a plus to consider.

I go to the sound setting and swtich to DD+ and my Denon receiver changes to Dolby Atmos

Yeah that's true and the QLed does not support DTS anymore neither does it support Divx I put in a blu ray last night and realized that there was no sound was too lazy to run the cable to my AVR but I will have to do it this weekend its kinda d**k move from Samsung

So, a few things have changed in the (almost) 4 years .

But specifically, the OLED does Dolby Atmos on Netflix shows, which the QLED can't.

A few months after these posts, I got the Q70R with does have the Dolby Atmos over Netflix . In fact, I really liked Tizen on the 2019 range and there really was no need to have an external box for years. The second thing is that I want to get OLED - but I am a bit concerned about daylight viewing with the reflections & brightness of the panels.

But I have no money, so moot point ...
