Samsung working on smart ring prototypes

Samsung could be expanding its horizons in wearable technology, with the company reportedly working on a Galaxy Ring, The Elec reports.

The South Korean tech giant has reportedly started developing smart ring prototypes and partnered with Japanese circuit board manufacturer Meiko to produce some of its components.

Samsung to start production of its rumored Galaxy Ring next month

There's been a rumor doing rounds for the past year or so that Samsung is preparing a new smart wearable - a ring, possibly called Galaxy Ring. It's a fairly untapped smart wearable market, so it makes sense for Samsung to explore it.

According to The Elec, the company has already finished the development process and will likely kickstart production next month. The Korean tech giant has reportedly secured its sourcing of the needed hardware and it just needs to decide when to start mass production.

Although production is near, the release won't happen until 2024. Aside from the standard regulatory processes, the Galaxy Ring has to go through various certification processes to obtain a "medical device" status. Just like the Galaxy Watch series, which now offers not only ECG but irregular heart rhythm tracking.

Samsung Galaxy Ring unlikely to go official with the Galaxy S24 series in Q1 2024

The Samsung Galaxy Ring, rumored to go official in January 2024 with the Galaxy S24 lineup, is now expected to be unveiled in Q3 2024 or Q1 2025, reports Korean publication The Elec.

The publication claims that the Samsung Galaxy Ring's design isn't finalized, and the Ring, in its current stage, supports multiple features but is too large for commercialization. Samsung is expected to reduce the Galaxy Ring's size while implementing as many functions as possible.

Moreover, the Samsung Galaxy Ring won't be sold in just one size since the Korean conglomerate is working on one Galaxy Ring model, which will come in four sizes. The brand has collaborated with multiple companies for the Galaxy Ring's development, including Doosung Tech and Korea Seongjeon.
