SAMSUNG rubbish

Will write (got a contact). Have gone the phone-them route. Was told to send in for repairs.

If you have genuine concerns it is only fair to address them to Samsung in written form to provide them with an opportunity to address your concerns formally. You may be pleasantly surprised by the results. If not then by all means post complaints once you have first afforded the company an opportunity at the correct level.

My Samsung S2 also went in for repairs 3 weeks after I got it. Nashua could not swap it out as it was over the "7 day swop out period". I just got a SMS today to collect it (after being with Nashua for 2 weeks). While I think the Android OS is great, sadly I cannot say the same for Samsung hardware. I've scanned some of the forums and it seems that these problems are not limited to a few users.

Will also be purchasing a 10.1 tablet soon and after this experience, Samsung will not be in the running.

When one writes letters one must write to the right person else it lands in no-man's land. By posting here before writing letters one may be pleasently surprised to see who's contact details get PM'd to you ;). This forum offers me the opportunity to vent my frustrations, as is done by many every day. Must we all first go through a formal letter writing process? Shouldn't I get a positive response when I phone the rep (which I did)?

I know it is not fair to judge Android on my Samsung experience
Definitely not. If you do get rid of the Galaxy S2, try Sony-Ericsson. I'll steer clear of Samsung phones, since I saw how atrocious their feature phones of a few years ago could be.

As for the general quality of Samsung products, I have to agree - a CD-RW drive lasted all of two years of light use, whilst the NEC in my laptop is still going strong after 4 years with much heavier use. A Syncmaster 753S blew a R0.50 power component a few weeks out of warranty. Sure, it was cheap to fix, but it was very inconvenient (I didn't have a backup monitor).

You may take any route you wish. I only suggest the alternative for best results.

What would be fair asking price for my SGS2?

I hated Samsung products as well, I thought would you buy a Kelvinator phone or notebook? NO. I bought a Samsung notebook I saw it online and bought it an hour later which is unusual for me because I only buy something when I am 100. Best random decision ever, love my laptop and I am getting a SGS2 on Wednesday.

Not to troll, but I think this is where Nokia Care outshine the rest. Problem with the phone they fix it. Problem persists, they replace it. Customer = Happy.

I seriously thought Samsung made flawless products with all the great reviews we hear about them online but its easy to forget that all hardware manufacturers face these problems

Okay, wrote an e-mail now. Let's see what happens. I genuinly hope this can be sorted out.

I've had many Apple products and never had any issues whatsoever. I wanted to experience the Android ecosystem and give it a fair go. Gingerbread is great ... Honeycomb not. I know it is not fair to judge Android on my Samsung experience but Apple's hardware is awesome and I would go back to it.

Yeah very true, iphone 4 has fantastic build quality.
Oh the Sony Ericsson's also have great build quality,i guess thats why they always late to the dual core party etc...much more extensive testing IMO.

Personally I love my SGS2. No issues with random reboots. Its been working flawlessly. I'm really not a fan of the Sammy tabs but the phone is fantastic.

That being said, I can feel your frustration. How about the HTC Sensation? My DHD was brilliant.

Weird wonder if africa gets all the crappy reject products?
I brought in my SGS2 from the uk in like may/june.
Awesome phone, have had zero issues...
It's been rooted and lightning rom. Those changes have made the phone that much better.

But good luck to you sir, hope they get you sorted out so you can enjoy the phone and tablet again.

I had the newton ring issue on my tab 10.1 as well. Called the Samsung customer service number and they logged a fault and said someone from head office will call me, cause I requested that. Five min later I get a call from from Samsung Head office in Bryanston and they told me to drop the tab there and they will give me a replacement. Dropped it off on Wednesday and was told I will get a new one by Friday. Got a call yesterday that the delivery truck did not come through so it will be Monday. Was offered a loan unit for the weekend. Will keep you updated when I collect it on Monday.
I told them if I get same newton rings on the second tab I will come back...and they said no problem.

That is positive! Why couldn't their rep in Cape Town do the same? I'm still waiting - a week later - for his promised return call. I want to believe that what you experienced with Samsung is how they would want to do it.

I am also disappointed with MTN from whom I got my tablet. MTN's reaction was to tell me that it is Samsung that is responsible for the device, not them.

I obviously hope my problems get sorted, but whatever the outcome one cannot help but wonder what is going on at Samsung that so many devices are defective. I would love to see a stat on the % of devices repaired/replaced.

I know my rant here may seem childish and over the top, but I am truly frustrated and disappointed.

What are newton rings?

There is an explanation on wikipedia but I'm not sure this is the same. This looks more like a liquid under the screen that creates Newton ring like effects.

My take on this is that Samsung made the P7500 cases too tight to beat the iPad 2 and now the pressure is too high on the LCD panel. Over time the panel will break ... and this is what concerns me most.

i.e. no expansion tollerances when device heats up through normal use. The moment the device gets warmer due to environment heat or a warm battery/processor whatever expansion occurs warps the LCD panel.

If my take on this is correct then this problem will persist untill a design change is made. This means that a large % of P7500 owners will experience ongoing problems over the life of the product. It can even get a lot worse than Newton rings.
