My S3 mini notified me that there is an update available, and since it is currently standing at 4.1.1, I am assuming it is the 4.1.2 update.

I tried to update over the air via the WLAN at work, but it just keeps on saying "Connecting to server" for a while after which it fails with an error message. I tried using the Kies software, but it starts to download some update component, get to 99%, and fails with an unknown error message.

Has anyone managed to update using these "official" methods? I'll try the Odin method next, but I first wanted to find out if there isn't something obvious I am missing.

I just checked and my phone is downloading the update via my home Wi-Fi

I did it over 3G a week or two ago. Had no issues. Took a few minutes.

Thanks for the replies, I am thinking it is something with the setup at work. I managed to get it updated at home over my wifi connection

Updated it on pc through kies. What is different between 4.1.1 and 4.1.2 ?

Let Google be your friend : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Android_version_history

4.1.1 23 July 2012

Fixed a bug on the Nexus 7 regarding the inability to change screen orientation in any application

4.1.2 9 October 2012[91]

Lock/home screen rotation support for the Nexus 7[92]
One-finger gestures to expand/collapse notifications[93]
Bug fixes and performance enhancements

I tried to update my wife’s S3 Mini last night. It downloaded more than 2 gigs of date before I gave up.

I did it via wi-fi at home. I think MTN will receive a little present from me at the end of the month because I went out of bundle:(

Why didn't you just download the firmware from www.samfirmware.com and install it via Odin?

2GB?? That's crazy.

The firmware is 550MB.

It was the first time that I had to update a phone. I didn’t know any better.

I think it kept restarting the update just before it finished, and kept looping until I put a stop to it.

That’s how you learn I guess...

Yup, you guessed right. ;)

And the money you spend, is called 'school fees'.

I don't think there is another official update for the s3 mini...
