Samsung S3 SUDDEN DEATH

Mine died Saturday. It was flat from Friday night, plugged it in, turned on, entered PIN and let it charge until the LED turned green indicating full charge. Then I took it off the charger, it worked for about half an hour then died completely. It won't turn on, charge or be recognised by the PC.

Also the 32GB i9300, the internets seems to think only the 16GB models are affected. Mine was of course running a custom ROM so the warranty probably won't help.

If its dead, they won't know you had a custom ROM. Would try anyway.

It's apparently one of the memory chips failing, they should still be able to access the rest of the board. But I'll give it a go anyways. How much is a motherboard replacement out of warranty?

Same thing happened with my S2...about 9 months old. Just sudden death while it was in my pocket. Tried different battery but still nothing. Took it to Autopage for repairs and 4 weeks later, they say I must pay 2K!
Surely this should be covered by the 1 year manufacturer warranty!

My S3 almost died on me. The battery was completely discharged and would not charge at all.
It took me removing it, waiting 6 hours and then charging it for 12 to get it back.
That's when I found out about Sudden Death. So I took it to Vodacom last week to get checked out.
Battery checked out fine, but they did flash it to 4.1.2 JellyBean. (Yes. They have it already, and seems its not available OTA)
Supposedly Samsung has fixed the Sudden Death Firmware bug in 4.1.2.

I also have the 32 GB one and it's from Vodacom. Mine had the newest 4.1.2 Android. I also posted a thread about this. Mine must be Sudden Death. It just stopped working and I never dropped it or let it come into contact with water. But what did vodacom say when it came back from repais? Oh it's liquid damage. Easy way out, isn't it? I mean they can't really prove it.

How do you argue with the water damage excuse...cos sometimes you know for sure they are just talking bull, but how do you prove it?

Yes isn't that the problem. They could just damage my phone themselves. And I swear I've never damaged the phone. But yeah, how do I prove it? I probably can't but they should prove it as well.

There's a little blue square behind the battery. I believe that turns red when there's water damage. Take a photo of it being blue when you hand it in, print and make them sign next to it or something.

I got my S3 back by the way. Samsung replaced the motherboard so it's internally a new phone. They even phoned me back a day after I collected to ask if I'm happy and to make sure Vodacon didn't charge me anything. Now that's what I call service.

I don't know if Vodacom even sent mine to Samsung. It's a horrible experience so far. I hope the second time around someone will fix it. My water indicator wasn't red.

Well mine had sudden death, the motherboard was ****ed. They only send it to Samsung if they can't fix it themselves. Which in my case fortunately they couldn't. Samsung service is great. Vodacom, not so much.
