I am looking to buy the Samsung S7 edge and looking at the Orange store they have the best prices ,but what is worrying they have mostly EU originating phones and it only carries a twelve month warrantee compared to a twenty four month warrantee of a South african phone.
Is this a huge problem and are there any other places to look at with similar prices than the Orange Store?

Try Gumtree. Second hand phone with most of the local warranty still remaining. Ask the seller for proof of purchase. Make sure you test the phone properly before sealing the deal. Buying from classifieds comes with risks, but they are manageable and you can save a lot of money.

I sold a brand new one on Gumtree about 3 months ago for R11k, unopened, MTN stock from an MTN company contract. Slightly more expensive than current Orange Store prices, but came with the full 24 month local warranty, ADH + 64 GB micro SD.

Another question, when one buys a phone on Gumtree how can one know if it is a genuine or a grey product?

You physically inspect the device and know what features the genuine phone should have.

Do your homework and you'll be fine.

On Gumtree... even if you get the receipt with a phone - do not buy one without enough of a warranty remaining - you might have to bin it.

I nearly bought a G4 because they were so plentiful, but found out about a boot loop defect... so people were dumping them before they get bricked.

I also know of a case where the phone tested fine, but had intermittent reception failure.

You have to be extremely careful. There are lots of fakes that are almost identical. The best was is with an app that checks the internals.
