Cool. However if I'm a layman and simply get the phone back it seems unreasonable for me to assume that it is not waterproof anymore, or at least the technician telling me this specifically, which he didn't. Somehow I just feel I will end up paying for this, any ideas?

You can at least try, the phone should be waterproof post repair, I would think they are liable or claim again from insurance or ask insurnace what they think. Unless Wefix clearly stated on the invoice that they don't guarantee it being waterproof post repair, I have seen that before.
 
So just as a follow up, insurance replaced my phone, on previous claim and charged no excess. So at least one happy ending for once!
 
Which screen protector is the best to use on the Samsung S8 ? Wife's phone only has the Bodyglove 3D ultra film screenguard on
 
Anyone know of a place where I can do a cheap screen repair ?

Genuine screen from Samsung - R4000
Genuine screen from Cell Clinic - R3150
Pirate Screen from WeFix - R2500

So insurance paid for Samsung repair so just took mine there.
 
Well I can sell it with a cracked screen for around R 1000 and with a fixed screen around R 3200-R3800 so I guess anywhere under R 2000. Went to a pakistani store but it was around R 2500, same price as the legit shops

Yeah the problem is the actual price of the screen. It's not the latest phone but the screen resolution still makes the Super Amoled 2k screen expensive even for pirate replacements.

You are better off just repairing it and keeping it because repair and sell is losing money and sell with cracked screen is losing money.

I would not get a screen from a Pakistani store, they are only good for cheap covers and tempered glass screen protectors, and that's only after haggling with 4 stores and getting them down to R50 each...

They are generally complete slime balls(not all of them of course but the decent guys are few and far between) and there's a good chance they will fit the dodgiest screen, cause damage on some other unconnected part of your phone and then vehemently deny responsibility for everything. So you'll be left R1800 out of pocket with a pos phone that can only be sold as spare parts. Been there done that.

I'd sell as is, not worth getting it replaced and then selling, the cost involved is not worth the risk. It's the sad truth with curved screen phones, they are consumables.
 
already have a new phone so currently it is my back up phone. Selling it for R1k seems like a waste might just wait and look for a special to repair my screen somewhere, know wefix had special vouchers to fix the Iphone 7 screens a while back so maybe there will be a samsung one soon.
 
L-Dog wont be much cheaper. The biggest cost is the actual screen which is around 2k plus. and daily value of s8 will drop as newer phones come out.

If you are going genuine you are looking at R4000+ for screen and fitment. If you take it to a shop that replaces the screen like the cellphone shops or repair shops not approved you are most likely getting a Chinese replacement screen anyways and probably also going to pay R2800+

Cheapest guy I got to fit the screen for me was like R2800 and it was a Chinese replacement anyways so yeah no I decided to import myself and install it myself. The replacement screen comes with a 3M adhesive template too so won't be hard to fit.
