Just a follow-up regarding my Samsung issue ( http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/305835-Samsung-ps50c550-Plasma-TV-problem ) and a general warning to all Samsung customers regarding the level of service you can expect from Samtech.

The unit was collected on Monday 31st Jan ... and from the beginning I should have been wary of Samtech. The TV was beautifully packaged, wrapped in its original box for collection. The Samtech staff, however, ripped the packaging off to check for pre-existing damage ( which is quite ironic ) and manhandled the TV with complete disregard for the equipment - fingers stuck all over the glass, screen being pushed up against a couch surface - ZERO protection whatsoever.

My TV was in pristine condition and certainly expected it to remain so.

The unit was delivered back to me today Fri 11th Feb ( after having its circuit board replaced - not comforting in itself considering it is only 6 months old ) and delivered in a terrible state. The photographs below show exactly what Samtech think of their clients, their equipment and with what complete and utter disregard they treat their obligations to Samsung and the brand as a whole.

The packaging was completely ripped on the one side. The unit had no protective covering on it whatsoever, jammed in the box and the glass summarily flush with the styrofoam. The screen itself was filled with handprints & fingermarks all over that was more akin to a kindergarten arts class.

Needless to say the outerframe is now littered with multiple scratches throughout indicated with the stickers below.

My 'new' 50 inch plasma Samsung TV thanks to Samtech's complete & utter negligence is now damaged. As most tech enthusiasts - I take great pride in the things I own. Samtech don't share that same level of respect.

Let this be a warning to everyone - your Samsung warranty is effectively useless when your TV is returned to you in a far worse condition than when it left. And if you do have to have your unit fixed - think twice before making use of Samtech.

I am awaiting a response from the Samtech owner & the Service Manager of Samsung South Africa ... as needless to say I don't believe it a term of the warranty that products are damaged by 'authorised' Samsung Service Centres.

I am bitterly disappointed. Let's hope that Samsung / Samtech convince me that this is not the norm.

Hectic. I'm sure the upper management will sort it out.

Pity one almost always has to go to the top when needing service.

Please keep us posted. I hope you deamand a new one considering. Pity the new CPA isn't in place yet. Be that as it may, fight this tooth and nail. Don't settle for less than a new one. Man this is infuriating!!!

Interesting, my post was deleted from this thread. Would really love to know why :wtf:

Ag not too worried, I know I didn't post anything out of line, so sure it was a mistake :p

Well, what did you post? Can you give us an outline? Say it in morse code?

The truth is ALL warranty and after sales service in SA is a crock of sh 1 t, so I'm not surprised that Samsung's is bad. Kinda the reason I didnt take the extended warranty when I bought my byDsign LCD TV from HiFi Corp - its still a repair and not a replace warranty. I would gladly pay for a warranty that would involve them swapping the thing on the spot instead of making me wait.

On the other hand, my LED PC monitor failed after a few months, Samsung repaired it and its been fine ever since.

I simply asked the op, other than the broken box what else was wrong? The pics didn't really show what the issue was.

I agree with you, service levels in this country are up to maggots. You can spend R10K on a TV and 2 weeks it breaks and then you have to sit and wait for it to be repaired. And as you can see that normally causes more harm than good.

Wow this is shocking but not entirely unexpected. Warranty essentially means "fix for free if it breaks naturally" (within the time period of course), and this is why products are scratched to **** and handled with a evident disregard of respect for clients products. You're paying for nothing, they couldn't care, as long as it functions. Ironically when you pay for something; it has to be perfect. The same should apply with a warranty repair.

Theres no way in hell I would just let this go.

Just a follow-up ... the motherboard for this unit was replaced in Feb 2011 ... it has failed AGAIN ... this will now be the 3rd motherboard installed in this unit! Be very wary of Samsung and their warranties.

What was there response to the damage they did? I've also had an encounter with the dumbasses at Samsung SA.

I would have refused to accept it.

They agreed to replace the outer-frame ... however - that would require stock to be ordered from overseas, the TV to be disassembled & involved wiring inside the unit - not a simple case of snap off and put a new one. After the damage they caused on the first repair - I wasn't going to let Samtech near it again. And seeing that the motherboard has failed AGAIN - its clear that either the initial repair wasn't done properly or Samsung's parts regularly fail ... most unfortunate that the TV was purchased before the Consumer Protection Act came into force - as they would have been obligated to replace it with a new unit ... rather than Samsung's approach - we'll just keep swapping out the motherboard over and over before admitting that there clearly must be an inherent problem here ( out of interest - anyone have any idea how much a motherboard like this costs ? )
