samsung tv - max external to be used

Hi there guys! Hope this is in the correct category.

I recently got myself a Samsung Smart TV. It is picking up my 2TB external drive but not displaying the folders and files. Do you guys maybe know if there is a max external size to be used with these tv's?
 
NTFS. Samsung support is useless. According to some websites the TV support both NTFS and FAT32.
 
It is in the manual I recall. I just use a 16GB USB flash drive. They do say that if the sourc eis too big it wont pick up the directory structure.

I use a NTFS 2 TB external on my non-smart sammy 51d550 and it plays everything from avi to mkv.

Maybe update firmware

interesting, thanks ghostbuster! i will download the latest firmware on my 8GB flashdrive then :p, can you confirm what version firmware you are running?

didnt read properly, only saw now you said non-smart, my bad! guess you dont have firmware upgrades then. will try tonight and let you guys know if it worked.
 
I've got a new Samsung Smart TV, and I have plugged in my 2TB external NTFS drive. Picks up everything and plays most formats fairly well.

can you maybe check your firmware version and let me know please?
 
OP, does your 2TB have a separate power supply? Or is it USB powered?


I know if it is USB powered, some TV's does not pickup the drive.
 
ok some feedback! i tried the 8GB flash drive and it worked. as for the 2TB not getting the firmware upgraded as yet. according to the steps in the manual the firmware suppose to be in zip format and only exe download available from the website? http://www.samsung.com/ae/support/model/UA32EH5300RXZN-downloads << came across the website this morning, tried updating from wrong zip whole time last night *facepalm

@ Kingbel you managed to check your firmware version?
@ McGuywer separate power supply, not host powered
 
I've got a Samsung and an LG (non Smart) and they both pick up my 2TB drive without any hassles at all. The software on the LG fares better than the Samsung, if I'm honest. I suspect it may just need a Firmware update. Failing that, contact Samsung. They are usually pretty great with their service, and if you don't come right with the update, they will send a tech to your premises to sort it out, free of charge, as long as it's still under warranty.

do you have the samsung smart tv? i just contacted samsung and according to them it can only take up to 160GB?
 
Got an old Samsung Series 5 40 inch and reads both my plug powered 2 tb hardrive and my usb powered 250 gb hardrive same with my flash drives which are 16 gb although now I use my bluray 3d player's usb to plug my hardrives in, since it's closer.
