Models are Philips 47PFL5403/98 and Samsung LA-46A550.

They're roughly the same price, 1" difference in size and full HD. Links are http://www.consumer.philips.com/con..._47PFL5403_98_ZA_CONSUMER/LCD-TV+47PFL5403-98 and http://www.samsung.com/za/consumer/...evision&subtype=lcdtv&model_cd=LA46A550P1RXXA

Both are almost identical specs too ... 500mit brightness, 30,000:1 dynamic contrast and 5ms response time.

I'm torn etween them :( The one thing I don't know is what generation panel each has? How do you guys know which is the latest?

Ill take the Phillips. Its 100Mhz right? Looks better.

It's not the ambient light one you mentioned last time either :/

Oh.
Regarding the Samsungs, I think it depends on the range, 5 6 7 or 8 series. The newer ones have USB inputs. Other than that I dont know how to tell a newer one to an old model. Generally the shiny look ones are newer.:o

Phillips is the top man.

Apparently the Samsungs dont do black too well.

That samsung is a 5 series. Not a bad screen, but nowhere near as good as the 6 series.

I have the Samsung Series 5 46" - very good screen - my first one had dead pixels, and Game exchanged it immediately.

The only issue I have is this screen also has the infamous "A", "C" and "S" panel issue.... mine had some back light bleeding, but it went away - so I'm happy with it... I am however about to sell it - a house I'm trying to buy has an outside entertainment room geared to be a small cinema, and the owner is selling it with all electronics as its fitted :)

It's also alot more expensive than both of those :/

Someone owes me money and can only pay a max of R15,000.00 right now - for both of those I'd be paying in only R3,000.00.

The Samsung I'll get at that price because my brother is buying a few other items there, and they'll discount.

A bit off-topic? How much can I get for my Series 5 46" 2nd hand? Bought in Oct 08, has the extended game warranty till Oct 2011 I think.

anyone one have any idea who stocks the LED Samsungs, series, 7,8 or 9 ... ???

with crazy contrast ratios like....
5 000 000 :1 contrast ratio

Sell it to Dolby :)

I haven't moved yet :) So not selling it yet... besides, he probably wants a new one.

BTW - if you go the Samsung Series 5 way, check this thread.

Try some of the high-end stores...

Out of interest, what do they go for overseas?

The Philips 54xx series is not 100Hz, the 7xxx series is.

I have the Samsung 46" series 6. When I did my research beforehand most websites reckoned that Panasonic makes the best sets...but I struggled to find any stores that stock them.

So far so good, have had no issues with mine. Just make sure to get a good quality surround system too, the tv sound on it's own is a bit dissapointing. I have the Samsung HT-TX500 home theatre system and the whole setup still makes me smile in anticipation whenever I go get a new DVD/ Blu-ray disc.
