Any info on how that Samsung drive performs - im partial to seagate 5 year warranty and all - prices above exclude 14% VAT - are Samsung drives reliable?

Thanks
J

Well considering that Seagate does produce the best harddrives on the market and your prices are damn expensive, I still opt for Seagate. I can get that same Seagate drive for R900 including vat.

Same here, I haven't really had that much experience with Samsung drives but I haven't had problems with Seagate.

New? If so, where? Because that's very cheap indeed... :p

R900 for a 750 gig with vat - lol - please, where? Those prices above are Sahara - Samsung and Rectron - Seagate - where do you find items that cheaply - off the back of the truck eh?

A friend of mine has a dealership with a place somewhere. He bought one for R1300 when it was R1800 at most other places.

i think he is to be honest

i highly doubt that there is any company in this country that would be nearly 200 rand cheaper than sahara on hdd's

your talking about 800 ex vat for a seagate 750gig

not possible

maybe 500 gig yea but not 750

I'v used a few Samsung's and haven't have problem so far. Samsung HDD's only have a 3 year warranty,

I don't know how good Samsung is now, but a few years ago while assembling a new PC, I had to take the Samsung drive back to the supplier 4 times. After that experience, I'm never touching Samsung drives again. I don't even buy their optical drives. I love their monitors though :)

Ihave the 750GB Samsung... Great drive, runs smooth and quiet, much cheaper than seagate

Nice price dude :D

Take 2 has Samsungs for R1250 incl. vat

I got me a 500gig WD for R850 incl. vat from a connection.
:D:D:D:D:D

I avoid Sahara and Samsung like the plague

Rather put in the extra R's and get Seagate (if you care about your data)

Yeah, especially seeing as Samsung haven't had nearly as many troubles as Seagate did with their 7200.11 drives

Please don't tell me your trying to compare Samsung with Seagate? The volume of drives sold by Seagate (across all .x drives) versus the amount of failures is minute.

So yes the .11 debacle was a bit of a blemish but how many times before that and after that has there been major issues? They are the market leader in desktop storage for a reason.

Everyone who works with TB's of data will tell you that Seagate is the way to go, but if your willing to gamble with your data then it cant be worth much anyway

Samsung make microwaves and tv's and neither of the two have been known to store data. Western Digital have lost the plot with data storage. Seagate well still the best by a long way just a pity the 5 year warranty has fallen away.

And the dropping of the warranty was done why?? Because of too many failures costing them money to replace :p

.

I'll never give Seagate another cent. I had valuable data on all 4 dead seagate drives in my cupboard. One of them being a dead full .11 1TB drive. Currently I have 2x WD in my main pc. 1x 500GB (3years old) and 1x 80GB(8 years old). Both never gave me a minutes trouble. In my HTPC I have 1x WD 500GB (2 years old) 1x Samsung 1TB ( 1.5 years old) & WD 640GB external. Same story, no issues at all.
