So my darling wife is buying me a new LCD TV for my birthday ... yeah :)

So my choices are either the SAMSUNG 46 LCD SERIES 5 model-LA46c530 - R 7499 or Sony 46CX520 - R 7000
I do plenty gaming on my XBOX and watch mostly DivX content. Also have TOP TV.I have a 5.1 Sony surround so Bravia Sync would be great with the Sony
LCD but i have noticed that the Samsungs are better quality IMO.I am currently using a 32inch Sinotec for 2 years with no problems and quite happy except for the name and size.

I have heard that Samsungs are problematic and there are many returns.

Going to Makro this weekend to view them.

Which one is better based on your experience?

Samsung is definitely better then the outdated Sony. Sinotec is all Samsung inside but is build at lesser tolerances and controls. I am very happy with Sinotec too. But if you are after "names" and tradition then Sony is the way to go. Even your grand mother will recognise it :D Uncompromised-Quality=Samsung. Show-off=Sony. Budget+Quality=Sinotec

my opinion is very biased but the support on the Samsung that i have encountered was EXCEPTIONAL.

however i can't comment on the LCD as i moved to PLASMA

Both those TVs are relatively low-end 46" screens... so I think they'll be very similar in all regards. Just have a good look at both, while connected to the same source (hopefully the same source that you will use at home).

The Samsung, but why an outdated model? The C530 is last years model, should be able to get a D550 for that price. Also Intel8080 the Sinotec unfortunately doesn't compare to either of those TV's I had one for a while.

Didnt realise that there is a new model Samsung (D550).I have noticed that the price is almost the same.I went to game and wasnt too impressed with the Samsung.Sony
looked better but i think its how game set it up.The product knowledge at Game is shocking.Any other models one can recommend for that price ?Does Samsung have internet TV like Sony?Hows the new plasmas with gaming?

I have the 40" Samsung Series 5 (LA40C530) and I couldn't be happier. I can't really compare to the Sony, but you won't be unhappy with the Samsung.

Xbox, divx content, and Top TV all point towards plasma. Not sure why it's not on your list. Samsung PS51D450 51" HD Ready R5,999 - R6,500. Go for the LCD if you have a bright room or sit close.

The Samsung has a better interface

I have the 32C530 and the usb plays everything (1080p MKV, avi, mp4 even some flv files) and it powers my 2.5" 640GB Seagate external HDD full of "content".

Sure the D550 will be just as good...

PS my C530 has an FM transmitter. Nice to watch on earphones, connected to phone when the wife / children need to sleep. Set frequency on TV, tune in on cellphone and enjoy the movie, sport, series...

+1

If you do not have a dedicated media solution the built in media player handles just about anything.

Do not waste your time with sony, samsung should be your choice whether you go for a plasma or lcd.

Samsung is miles ahead of the rest....

Also the reason why the iPhone cannot beat the Samsung Galaxy S2. Switch on the SGS2 with its Super AMOLED Plus screen next to an iPhone and you'll know what I mean. ;)

Fanboi drivel. Those with iPhones do not need them to have better hardware. And regarding the screen, iPhone 4's is superior technology (IPS) with higher PPI. Obviously something you couldn't understand. Not surprised considering your ignorance of LED-LCD TVs.

Went to Dion Wired and asked them to move the Sony next to the Samsung and play the same HD feed.Wife and I didnt notice that much of a difference. Both were great.
Samsung wins aesthetically but other than that the Sony is better value. It has internet TV which Samsung only offers on their LED models .This was the selling point and also getting it for a bargain from a buddy. Will go great with my bravia sync. Thanks for all the advice.Much appreciated.

Maybe I just have better eyes than you?

*Are you still harrassing anyone and everyone in the TV section?

+1 for the Samsung.

Also if you have an Android phone you can get the remote app from the market. Love it on my D550.

In true Android fashion you can load custom firmware as well.

Ok so after much anticipation, i have changed my mind about Sony.Visited a Samsung shop and was blown away with the quality.
They have the D5500 LED for R8999.This however comes without the Smart TV but has 100HZ.I think im going to wait a bit atleast till January.I am crazy for the UAD46D6000 LED 3D TV 200HZ.Hirsch can give this at R12600.Wow...what a TV!Any recommendations on these selections?
