But surely there is a standing order that if you are about to be fired on, as opposed to being fired on, in a death threatening situation, an army officer can defend themselves???

Personally, if some **** points a deadly weapon at me and I am a trained SADNF soldier, FFS, I am trained to save the state an expense in training another soldier to replace me. Let alone that I am saving my own live, as well as keeping my unit at full strength. Surely that is the basic military mantra??
Otherwise, OK shoot me, its OK. I die, you win, our army loses another soldier. Good deal no? It defends our constitution???
Bugger that, shoot to kill if targeted. Is that not what ALL military organisations teach??

Don't vote at all then if another party does not tweek your interest, or go drag the ministers from their homes and necklace them!
It borders on ridiculous to imply that just because there is a 'belief' that there is no viable opposition, politically speaking, that these acts of barbarism are somehow justified.
There are viable political alternatives, the people need to wake up to the fact that the ANC are full of empty promises and exercise the power they have in the vote. If they don't the situation on the ground won't change, ever.
The people give the ANC power, they can take it away just as easily, without violence.

Do not believe the Police or SANDF are doing nearly enough.
If you watch the news footage you will often see a few fat cops standing next to a van with their shotguns as a crowd walks right on past them armed to the teeth with weapons from spears, pipes to axes. And the cops just stand and watch
They need to ambush these mobs, encircle then and disarm them. If they resist they do so at their own peril.
Allowing them to run around with weapons singing songs that raise tensions and stoke the fires of violence is as good as giving them a free pass to kill whom they wish.
It is unthinkable that the police just stand and watch and let them carry on like this without any effort to disarm them.

lol - encircling your "enemy" when you are armed with a shotgun is not the best bet.

I Agree! Stop the trouble makers before they get a chance to do anything.
but they are not just armed with shotguns.
We have helicopters in the air, reactionary troops that can be dropped in and deployed anywhere at a moments notice, but we 'choose' to watch them walk past on their march to a murderous state of anarchy.
