Sandybridge CPU on an Intel 7 series mobo

Both are LGA1155 compatible but is the 7 series motherboards more Ivy bridge orientated (if i am not mistaken)?
Are there going to be any drawbacks (except for ivybridge having better onboard graphics)?
Are they fully compatible?

Yes all SB CPUs are compatible. Not sure about drawbacks, specifically USB3.0 working at 3.0 speed.

I suspect the USB3.0 would work fine since the controller is possibly a third party chip on the motherboard?

If third-party controller, you don't need to worry. Only concern is integrated controller on platform 7, as many features are implemented on CPU.

I am going to start a new thread thanks. Have to be sure about that controller.
It's a build for a customer and can you imagine they receive and the USB3 is not working.

If you build a new for consumer don't do such things, unless customer is fully informed! Upgrade scenario is more justified.

Have to be sure precisely what work and not.

My main reason for such build is that Ivybridge Pentiums and celerons is not on the market yet.
(last time i checked)
I want to offer them the best mobo as possible (with pci-e 3 and usb 3.0 and that msata on some) but have an pentium option for those on a budget.
With the Core processor it is fine though. Ivybridge a plenty for that.

Sometime you get those that want a very good mobo but with a budget type processor on the view of upgrading in a years time.
