Sanral has denied reports that it and the Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) are stopping motorists to check whether they are e-tagged or not.

I don't think this story has any merit.

There is absolutely nothing JMPD can do with motorist who do not have an etag, so they would just be wasting their time if they did do this.

I saw some mention that the metro cops were doing a survey on etag usage. Now where was that again ?

Friend got stopped by a corrupt cop who tried all avenues to extract lunch money. This included e-tag missing, then driving to fast and then tires profile been worn out too much. I think most of the reports about e-tag checks are from corrupt police trying to extract bribes.
