Sanral plays down e-toll spread worry

Wait a moment, what happened to the "it's not fair to expect the rest of the country to pay for a road" argument. I guess if you are that full of crap consistent arguments are not high on your priority list.

You know you have a serious problem when Treasury says that the agency responsible for the national road infrastructure is told to " raise their own money".

They could have already been collecting plenty more using fuel levy, and even started fixing some of the gravel-roads they call highways in the other provinces by now.

On a side note, how I wish I could punch that Mona in the schnauz.

Mona explained that e-tolling is a method of payment for one’s toll fees and not a funding mechanism.

“It is simply an electronic payment method for tolls – as opposed to paying manually at a toll gate,” he said.

Doesn't this conflict with their reasoning as to why they can add VAT? Since it's "not" a toll gate?

EDIT:

Went and reread the "Sanral clarifies VAT charge" article. I think I might have confused myself >.<

Anyone with the know how care to correct me please? :)

SANRAL is welcome to bring their gantries to Cape Town! The only problem is that they will constantly find their gantries in Cape Town Harbour or somewhere as the big trucks around town trying to take out the bridges in and around the town!

If the system is "working well" ... then I guess myself and the millions of other users can go on not paying since we have not paid a single cent yet.
I'm totally fine with that.

“The Operator, ETC are currently putting mitigating processes in place to address the Customer Service related challenges,” Mona said.

I get the feeling that he was trying to say something here, but once again he's using words out of his "purview"...:D

I don't like this whole municipality handing over to SANRAL.. Why can't they afford to fix their own roads?? Corruption taking too much out of the coffers to pay for it?
